yep- and compare that to the Devoti / Suntouched support put behind the D-Zero.... okay, not exactly RS marketing machine credentials; but a solid effort, engaging with a modest number of early adopters, all of whom seem happy to recommend the boat to their mates.  The same fate did not await the Icon, not by a long way, yet the concept are hardly dissimilar-- simple, easy to sail, low maintenance and SMODy in their approach... and the big one, good value, damn good value compared to established classes like Solos, Merlins, OKs, 400s etc.

In fact, does anyone still actually sail one regularly anywhere?  Double figures yet?

Why oh why did they not stick with Devoti?a proven international brand with a world wide distribution network ...

GOOD QUESTION ...... it's the boat business, after all, with some very uncommercial and unusual characters ..... maybe Devoti couldn't make headway in such circumstances????
It seems great boats are not always destined for greatness..... our loss!

Even I am seriously attempted and I need more boats like a hole in the head!

Having owned a tasar and there is an Icon at the club, it was a great bit of work by ML, but multiple builders in the early years has not helped this at all. I also wonder if launching whilst allowing people to fit out as they wanted was perhaps a bit of a mistake with hind site. I still had my Tasar when I saw it at the dinghy show and probably wrongly I kind of felt it seemed a bit unfinished as a project if all the control layouts were up for debate.

Now let me go and check under the cushions on the sofa again.

They cant do that Paul, it would make every boat produced so far out of class.  Which would compound any situation.  This boat is cheap, seriously cheap!  It represents good value for a club racer and will no doubt offer years of fun for whoever buys it.  Its what 18 months old!

I'll be honest at that money it is getting cheap enough that it does not matter too much. The boat is a hoot on restricted water so as long as the rig does not change hugely then I cannot imagine it being a problem.

If the CA chose to say these boat are not class compliant that would be a huge mistake though.

I am struggling to work out how relatively cheap boats being available are a hindrance to a class....
Paul
