We just allow rig and boat switching as much as you like within a series, it is the helm that all results are attached to regardless of boat. No-one has every complained about it so I dont see your problem.

either use the fastest rig used handicap for all races (simple administration solution, fairest solution to sailors)

or use the correct handicap for all rigs and races as one entry (potential bandit country, admin headache)

or let them use any rig but add them as separate entries (admin faff, not great for the sailor)

At our club all series must be raced in the same rig but you can change boats in that if you are borrowing a club boat it doesn't matter which boat you use as long as the rig is the same.

Choose the fastest handicap the hull has and apply that, we have Lasers in our series who are bandits on the sea at the best of times but when they fling up their radial rig in conditions they might get flattened..

So if they're going to rig switch then they get the fastest handicap, if they elect to stick to one rig then they get that handicap, but if they then choose to switch to another rig,  they get another set of results in the series and become competitors with each other.

We are having a bit of a debate in our club about what to do with people who race single handers, but change rigs based on the conditions. With the Laser rig swapping didn't appear to happen that often, so we kind of ignored it. However with the introduction of new classes with multiple rigs (Aero, D-Zero) the issue is getting greater awareness, especially as some people are declaring that they will use different size rigs depending on the conditions.

Just wondering what other clubs are thinking/doing on this?

Would be good if there was some common consensus on the fair/right way to deal with this in a simple manner that club volunteers can handle.
