How many people who sail talk about sailing? I am not sure the forum is a reflection of reality.

Agree with that tick, but given the amount of people that had ordered it was a one man band.  Perhaps I'm in the minority, but if I had ordered something new (like I just have a bike) im googling and chatting about it whilst I await delivery.  Which by the way I have to wait 3 months for my new bike.

Nope - it's virtual litmus paper at best, I'd have a guess that quite a few sailors have probably heard of neither! Nor would they care one jot!

Realistically, there are more 100s being sailed around the country than d-ones, so not sure you could deem the D-one more successful yet.  But, having bought one and sailed both of them I am a big fan of the d-0ne and only last week have been encouraging a purchase of one.

My experience of RS boats is they hold their value pretty well.

If I were at a supernova club, I'd still buy one, great boat, same goes for any existing class, Dzero or indeed the aero I have. Demand and prices will fluctuate but they will all survive. Personally I think the club laser fleets will be the ones that suffer. They have been losing sailors to a number of classes in recent years and the advent of the structured approach of RS and Devoti is just adding to that.

No matter how much some may wish it - you won't be buying either 'ero at a knockdown price for a long time as they are both too much fun Big smile

Meanwhile two more Streakers have turned up at the lake, so according to all that analogy I should buy a Streaker, everyone tells me my size dictates it, it very often does well on handicap to the point even my best shot i can't take it, now there will be a sizeable fleet sailing them close by, but just because they've all become mental, doesn't mean I'm going to.

Quite right Simon - the point I was making to Salmon was that lower sales figures does not necessarily lead to lower residual values.... in fact it could be argued that the opposite could be true in certain circumstances. Rodney doesn't sell thousands of Finns each year, but boy do they hold their value (trust me - my bank manager will attest)!

At my club (afaik) we have 1 Aero, and no Zero's yet (never sure whether the apostrophe is appropriate.... I suspect not), but we do have a VERY strong (both in numbers and quality) Laser fleet that does everything required for those that race them.

I must admit, the lack of confessed Aero owners on here does suprise me. Whether that says more for the typical Aero sailor or this forum, I don't know.

It saddens me greatly that people pick a boat based on future depreciation values.

Bootscooter, no ', as you thought.

I am really pleased the Aero is selling well, even though it probably means that sales of boats like the Lightning will never climb above 1 or 2 a year again, unless the spotlight on singlehanders grows the whole market. Not surprised that the Zero is selling in much smaller numbers, but that those numbers are still very impressive.

I saw a front page article from Laser fighting back. They still have a huge International reach that RS can only dream of. If I remember right, 141 countries now have fleets of them. If they can stop fannying around with lawsuits, out of class sails, stupid rules on control lines and the like, maybe they will continue to be top dog for many years to come.
