One thing's for certain, the D-Zero fleet racing we're experiencing at Grafham Water is infinitely closer than anything seen in the Laser fleet over the last few years. It's a breath of fresh air to be honest, with negligible separation across the fleet.

is it about time someone admitting that the sales of the Aero are and order of magnitude larger than the D-Zero.
I'm not saying which boat is best or who prefers what but the numbers are staggeringly different

I can't stand all that close racing bollox, t**sers everywhere getting in the way, used my small sail yesterday, because i can't cut it with the big one, then it didn't turn out to be as windy as it looked and I'm all close encounters, coming out of the marks behind someone stuffing to try and climb above someone else and not enough speed or distance to go under and out, tack off and you lose the shift, because inevitably it's the wrong way, close with them and the savvy ones luff to guard their mark room on downwind legs, no power to sell them a dummy and dive through their lee, having to give way on port lay lines to overstanding t**ts, there is no substitute for a nice fast boat a clean start and loosely covering and the only time you get involved with them is on the way through when your lapping and they're a bit drawn out. I'm done with one design, very very tedious, give me a fast boat with a slow handicap..

Why would that matter? Frankly it was always going to be that way, just their database alone would assure RS success in the volume department regardless of their probably more volume capable manufacturer. The fact is the connoisseur will know which is the better racing boat and everyone else will buy aero's, it doesn't make the Zero any less desirable.

Precisely- no one owning either is a) surprised or b) particularly bothered.
There's a few zero owners I know who would bail out at the first sight of anything too channelled down structured roots / delusions of Olympic aspirations etc... I know of the class vibes kicking around- something more akin to the 300s and Mustos would get my vote over layered structures, squads and development programmes. But horses for courses - at the level I sail at you frankly pick either and you'd have a good ship. Edited by turnturtle - 09 Feb 15 at 6:32pm |

Well it matters if your 6000 quid investment is worth 1500 after 2 years like so many have done before

Surely it's the risk you have to be prepared to take if you are an early adopter. |

Not really Mr Salmon.... how many 100's were sold in it's 1st year, as opposed to D-Ones? And which is regarded now as the more successful racing class?

Depreciation on RS boats is well known - but food for thought, they're nearer 5 grand and if it's worth 2k after 3 years that's cheap sailing (for new boats) imho

What a load of nonsense, even though/if the aero (was always going to) outsold the zero, the zero still has outsold most other classes this year. It already has a critical mass and good order book. So will have good residual values. What's going to happen to supernova values now the aero has sold so many boats? Or the blaze or rs300. It bears no relation frankly. I am just glad we are finally getting people posting about the Aero that actually have taken delivery of a boat. That's something to celebrate. But please don't rekindle a dead debate, we (zero) fleet are stamping out or jumping on people who try and engage troll like behaviour about either class. It's been done and people are bored of it. How about people who own an aero talk about the aero?
