As of Tuesday we have just hit 20 boats for the new Lymington RS aero fleet, a position we couldn't have imagined a few months ago.

Without discussing the way the boat sails its interesting to try an work out why its had such a take up and contributing factors are certainly :-

1) Weight - not just on the water, but the ability to car top easily and being very light on the slipway and in the boat park for all sizes of sailors is really popular.

2) Simplicity - its not intimidating for people who don't like string

3) Variety of rigs -  there is a real spread of rig sizes and quite a number of boats with at least two rigs across Yoofs, ladies, skinny folk and the pie brigade

We have an RS aero open meeting on the 13th/14th of June so all clubs are being invited to attend. We are planning for 50+ boats.

We are at the Western end of the Solent, with a large sailing area and clean consistent winds especially from the prevailing South West. With an all-tide wide concrete slipway to launch from, a quaint Georgian Town and the New Forest for the other half, whats not to like?

Oh and did I say its nice to sail ;-o

Good to hear how well it is going. We only have the one, but he is loving it. Not sure there is enough money around for the fleet to grow like Lymington, though.

sounds good - 50+ boats is a big ask mind, but no harm in being optimistic, even if you get your own 20 out it'll be an achievement to be proud of in this economic climate!

I hope the weather plays ball for some sunny sailing photos for you all.

Well that's good news Simon, so what were the loser classes that formed the bulk of the uptake, it'll only be really good news, when it goes something along the lines 'we've got 20 new members sailing Aeros who've never sailed before', which is feasible but would need a bit of work training adults.

Anyway brilliant news, light, easy to use, uncomplicated, ticks all my boxes..

Shame about the handicap, but with twenty you can give the PYAG the middle index finger and foxtrot oscar...

There is no yardstick yet, so no need to worry about such things, really, especially with a fleet.

... besides the SR indicators show them to be going back up to estimated levels anyway.  So no handicap drama even for those who do sail in mixed fleets in them.

well we are running the 8 off 1035 and so far I think thats a bit low. I think 1040-45 is probably about right. It would suit you as I think the skinny boys in a 7 are going to be quick.

Some are new sailors to the club,

Replacing a couple of streakers, supernovas, blaze, phantom and yes the old knee wrecker itself.
