So (carryng on from post above) the question for the keen Class Association is what can we do to make it easier for people to put stuff on YouTube, Facebook, and whatever the current weeks current fad is. What you probably need most of all is good internal communications so if someone comes up with something neat it can be spread by all the other keen folk on as many platforms as its suitable for. I think the days of a class publicity officer doing all the press releases are gone, or at least significantly diminished. There are just too many platforms and places, and if you aren't familiar with them it just looks out of place. Consider how different the presentation of the same video might have to be on Youtube, FaceBook, YY and Sailing Anarchy for instance. Must have this chat at the club...

So, how many platforms are there that old farts might have the ability to see?
Wiki lists Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin as the top three. The next three are Sinowelbo, Tumblr and Pinterest; non of which I have heard of. edit: Youtube is not listed as a social media website on Wiki Edited by boatshed - 04 Feb 15 at 12:54pm |

Wiki is out of date - the tube is now hard wired to google plus, whether vloggers like it or not... Google f**k you Google plus for a funny song on it....

But does anyone use Google+ in the same way they use Facebook?

Club websites too, where there is a class presence, or a training day coming up. Some clubs are better online than others, mind.

The RYA who in theory are linked to all clubs and many classes are missing a chance in a role they could play in communicating and/or acting as a communication channel for the dinghy sailing "community".

Like some other things - sailing is more enjoyable when you do it with someone else

Oo, if they were the hosts i can just imagine the level of moderating/censoring the RYA would want to do on some of the posts I and others have made if they were the hosts. I'm thinking of negative opinions about the damage caused to grass-roots sailing by their infernal zone squads etc, never mind grumpf and his views on PYs I'll stick with Y&Y thanks

Don't forget local newspapers and radio stations.
They are often keen to get new copy. And something like an initiative to get more women sailing could be just the thing they would like to feature. Am I just lucky to live in an area where local papers are happy to carry reports of club racing? We've also got the magazine called Anglia Afloat which does a pretty good job, with articles about all sorts of boating activities including regatta reports. I'm not saying that all the people we want to connect to are likely to read such stuff - but it all helps.
