I get what you are saying Rupert, but actually the bike analogy isn't a great one really.  As road bikers would not race off road.  Each discipline of cycling has a different bike.  TT, Road, Cyclocross, Track etc.  Even Mountain bikers have different mountain bikes for the different sub disciplines.  Its a very broad sport cycling, and is very, very kit heavy if you want to 'race' in different facets of the sport.

Null is spot on. I only play at cycling as a sport, but still own 4 bikes
Do take sailing slightly more seriously, but only ever own one boat at one time. Did own a radial rig as well as a standard rig when I owned a laser though.

Each to their own.

If I could afford to have enough boats to have the perfect sail whatever the conditions, I think I would. As it is, I make do with a laser for now.

yep, each to their own.... one assumes given the choice of the Fireball, the guys who won the BM so effectively weren't too fussed about the 'series' either.  ;-)

Or, with the fact that the Sailjuice series is 4 to count from 8, perhaps they are going for the first two places, one in a fireball, one in a 505...  Wink

good job prevailing wind in the UK is generally light to moderate, therefore the little complaining sh*t could more than get his own back with a 9 rig.....  LOL

I'd hope there would be enough returns (if this wasn't a pursuit) from the Aero5 over a season that one person switching rig would be unnoticable. However, if it always happens when the wind picks up that the big guys swap down, then it would have an effect. So will light guys switching up when it is a drifter.

I do agree with those who say that rig switching is a personal choice, and if the rules allow it (so if the online entry can be changed on the day) then so be it. In the case of the winner, I assume he didn't bring both boats and choose on the shore, but made the decision a little earlier, looking at the forecast, which might have proved wrong?

Its not a new thing for people to turn up at the BM with the boat of choice to win. I believe its been happening for years.
