i don't know what we get wrong attracting juniors. Perhaps a group of grumpy old gits leering at their mothers does not help. Perhaps I will pat them on the head and offer sweets....or would I get arrested?

Since I was bought up digging in the bomb sites of London for food and never really read Swallows and Amazons, can you tell me, what is a Grindle?

it's a stream to dam up with twigs and mud, paly pooh sticks and if no one's look, take a piss in upstream when your siblings are down...

Ah, i see. I have a 'grindle' running over my land here but I call it 'A bloody nuisance that overflows in winter' I will stick with the sweets.

I loved my one trip to Manor Park. My then girlfriend now wife was sailing there while based at Lichfield. So we went down for the day for me to test a repair. The 300 is a manouevrable boat, but I'm not sure I've ever felt so short of room! But the welcome was absolutely marvellous.

I sold my blaze to a bloke at manor park and had to deliver the boat there for him. The way he talked about it sounded fantastic but it was too far to become my club when Burton, Staunton Harold and Swarkeston all closer.
Must say I wouldn't have fancied sailing a blaze there though.

That's really nice to know that visitors have enjoyed our place.
There's more water than people think as we have 3 inter-connecting lakes. The one in front of the club house is a bugger as it's all trees and a couple of Islands. Keeps the kids in essential 'splashness' though ![]() There's one - rarely sailed on - that is great for gentle, quiet cruise type sailing. It has nesting colonies of Canada Geese, Swans and Heron, Lovely bit of water. Again, though, surrounded by trees and features a waterside house with a glass-fronted bedroom......be careful when you choose to take visitors/children for a sight seeing trip! ![]() The main lake for racing is accessed via crossing a river cutting - known as 'the gap' A reasonable sized bit of water, still affected by trees and one island but not as much as the front lake. Anyway, it certainly keeps us on our toes and 'tack on shifts'... ![]() I sailed a Dart 15 on there ok and the lad that bought my Moth got on alright as well. Merlins are a good choice. I guess this also allows for lots of different types of sailing without people getting in each others way too much. Visitors are always welcome if you're near Lichfield, let me know and I'll get a brew on if I'm around. Bring a boat, have a race (It's definitely not a 'serious' racers place though) ![]() |
