Not sure if Titty or even Roger would be considered PC.  Though I like the idea of a pint of Adnams at the Butt and Oyster, though probably not as good as when Pat was the landlord... Happier days, and certainly nothing to do with promoting sailing clubs!

A modern version would have them in crash hats and BAs and texting each other - much of the freedom would be lost, and there is no way they would be allowed to camp by themselves. If they did, John would have got Nancy pregnant, the words "you slaaaaaag" would have echoed across the water and when the policeman came to the island they would have bottled him.

filming was delayed until 2014.... nothing more on the production company's website.

Hopefully that's the end of it.... time to put a match under the Nancy Blackett ... in the mud at low tide, just outside the Butt and Oyster quaffing Adnams.

Not sure about the point of a remake, but my kids loved the film and some of the books and it certainly had an influence on what they enjoyed doing on the water. Teens now, so not so much any more, of course, till they get older again.

But that link was from 4 years ago, so I assume nothing ever came of it.

The present mindset of some of our newer members often worries me when it comes to what to wear. Drysuits and wetsuits have their place (early spring winter, on the sea and really big waters) but to continue to wear such gear on a hot summers day amazes me. How they do not get heatstroke I do not know on days when I find wearing a buoyancy aid leads to overheating!

When challenged the reply is often that we may capsize but on our small water, its just like falling into a warm bath!

Will the after sail drink of choice be Pimms?  Will it feature product placement by Cath Kidston, Hunter wellies and any other quintessentially crap British tat?

Will it bomb straight to Netflix and above all is there a role for former child stars of the Harry Potter franchise?   Really, this is highly exciting news...

Worryingly as I have grown older I have found a spot of fresh varnish and a new yellow buoyancy bag or two correctly inflated strangely alluring.

For the record our little Club is self financing, in surplus and I personally do not forsee any need for it in the near future to go cap in hand to Sport England for funding capital projects so I don't see us as a drain on the wider sailing community.

My perception of Lottery funding when it first came on stream was that there was an expectation that Clubs (certainly ours anyway)would have to change their Modus Operandi big time to fit into the Sport England mindset in order for any application to be successful, which then would have been totally unpalatable to us.

Clap Clap Clap  fair call!
