well guys,
2 events down.  The Yorkshire dales brass monkey this weekend.  Who is doing what events?  Who is not?  If not why?  This winter series really is to me a celebration of British dinghy racing.   It's been ruined somewhat in recent years by some rule flouting.  But I am giving it another crack.  What do you like, what do you hate? How could the series be improved?  For me the series need to be careful it does not adopt too many events as clubs try and force their own event into the market.  The datchet event for me didn't work.  2 day events that close to London sounds like a nightmare certainly not one I would want to pay £30 (or whatever it is to attend)

I am really looking forward to some big wind sailing and have committed to events even with a self proclaimed py kicking.

So come one guys what's your thoughts?

I've done both the Draycote and Datchet events so far. I also plan to do the Bloody Mary, Stevie Nics and Grafham. I thought Datchet was good, dead easy to get to as so close to the M4 and an innovative pursuit race format that they really ought to be congratulated on.

Stevie Nics and Grafham both split the fleets so it's less weather dependent so fairer on everyone. The Bloody Mary is a bit of a nightmare to get away from despite the marshalling, but I try to do it every 3 years or so. I don't fancy Rutland - a 2-day event in February doesn't really appeal.

Draycote could be improved by not holding the Sunday racing in zero wind!!

I couldn't do Draycote for some reason or another, was ill at Datcher, but otherwise am doing everything else except the Bloody Mary.

Off to YDSC on Saturday where it is looking like being Brass Monkeys for the Brass Monkey. Not looking forward to the 3 hour drive each way though.

For the Bloody Mary I meant to add that I can't be bothered to drag the D one up and down the banks of QM.  If the weather looked ok I could maybe take a posh pink Lightning if it was windy.

Can't figure out if I can be arsed to drive across to Draycote to pack up a boat to then drive to Oxford to go race it, or whether to drive to Draycote and just go sailing.

Beach boat mentality is strong with me.....

It doesn't matter, James, as long as you enjoy it once you're on the water.

Supposed to be having an informal sail on New Years day but the forecast for the Solent is 20 knots, a bit much for unsupported sailing.

Exactly...

Packing the boat up at 6am just to go and sail on another lake seems a little daft...
