Thanks Null - the D1 stuff all comes flooding back, now. Funny how something that looked so odd a few years ago now simply looks normal.

Why did I ask a sensible question in the middle of eulogising about the d1???
Everything I say is my opinion, honest

Has the discussion of Aero repair videos died now? thank god.
God the D1 is ugly. But a fantastic boat to sail and the 2015 worlds are on my to-do list if I can find a boat.

But then you can pick holes in every boat. Take the Aero, it is a great design, the hull looks flash. I grew up dreaming of Jo's Full Pelt and if you look at it and the Aero you can see where the inspiration came from (and the Vago)http://www.thedailysail.com/inshore/10/28003/designerskipper-jo-richards-describes-what-stephen-feins-latest-creation-is-going-t
But why is the boom so high on the Aero, it just looks suitable for a sailing centre. Having said that, I was out the other day in my Devoti (finn) one to one down the waves heart rate some where up near 85%, 15 knots of wind and an Aero went past with a frail old man helming going about 5 knots faster! with me in an Aero, it would be over 80kg lighter than the finn. That is awesome deign! Could you add a retrofit foil package to it? If it really is to replace the beach boat the laser was designed as (that was a great design article on the y&y front page yesterday) and with its weight and some big foils could you make it the 'basic' foiling play boat thing? God that would cause some PY discussion on here
I personally think the D Zero looks great and being a big fan of Devoti then can only imagine it is built well, handles well and has that racing pedigree that RS have some what lost over the last few years with their design (that's my opinion btw)
I really want a go in both especially the D Zero....one day

If you cannot get to a Suntouched Demo day most D-Zero owners I have spoken to are happy to let people have a go. Drop me a PM if you are in/near East Anglia and you would be more than welcome to take mine of for a sail.

Cheers, But sadly a long way away from East Anglia. I will get a go one day. How easy are they to rig? When there is light, I sail before work in the morning and so far nothing beats the finn for rigging. Is it a halyard lock hoist? does the mast stay up or come down and split like a laser? I am sure it would certainly beat dragging a Finn up the beach with twenty mins before you have to be in work!

Other threads are available... Besides questioning hyperbole is surely one of the points of a forum originating from a consumer magazine?

You can have it either way. The mast is 2 piece and you can get a mast up or mast down cover as you see fit. Mast down it takes a few minutes longer to rig. Mast up you can be on the water in a matter of minutes.

They also do a natty little mast cover to keep the UV off the carbon (if you are concerned about that).

The halyard has a lock up at the top which the furrule from the short wire strop fits in to (same as the Finn I believe).
