Don't think they had them then.
For Brass' interest I saw a proposal from around 1900 that if a boat touches a mark it should be permitted to reround the mark rather than retire. By the look of things it wasn't adopted though. In those days the Canoes had their own RRS (RRC?). I probably should scan an early rule set, might be interesting.
