Not quite, the answer the conspiracy theorist is looking for will satisfy them, but only that answer, otherwise there's still a conspiracy

I think RS have handled this OK.

They made a cock-up when posting a video to You Tube and quickly removed it as it was for dealer eyes only.

I have to say though that were I the recipient of one of these boats that has had a repair and there were issues down the line (and I found out about it) I would be more than a little upset......

Damage happens in transit - I recall Rodney getting tail ended not that long ago. Do we really think that any of these manufacturers are not going to do any repairs perfectly given what is at stake. Of course they will be done properly and given the nature of modern construction it will be just as strong and look as they should.

If there ever were a problem those few numbers will be recorded by the dealer anyway. Provided it looked right and had been done properly I wouldn't have a problem with it. problems in any dinghy tend to show up quickly. I had to have a repair on a new dinghy a few years ago and it never caused me a problem after that. My Tasar was 30 something years old, had been completely rebuilt and was stiff as a board and 3kg underweight, so anything can be repaired and be unaffected.

Why is not a good thing that a manufacturer advises a dealer how to repair cosmetic damage in a consistent way?
It is a great boat.  We love ours.

On the basis that pretty much everything (in small marine manufacturing!) that comes out of a mould requires some degree of 'finishing' to reach the prescribed level to present for sale, this is an example of one of those things. As the manufacturer, anything we do prior to delivery is part of that process. This isn't an issue per se that should be notified or something specific to RS..

Its not just transit damage, could be de-moulding/jacking damage, fit out damage, a less than perfect tool, gel coat voids, sealing leaks, shrink back, gel streaks, etc. Thats just a part of making the boat or piece, whatever boat or piece that is.

What matters - in our opinion - is what ultimately we hand to the customer and the way we tackle things if we find them out afterwards. The blood, sweat, tears, care and attention that gets to that point is our problem. Don't you agree?

So what was the HIN number range? Must be worth telling people so they can check.

Alex said in his post it was just a couple of containers sent to overseas dealers so the issue would be easily contained in that case but the range in the video was at least 100 ...

Also, why was it necessary to repair both boats in the demo (you could see the blue masking tape) if that was a demo for an overseas dealer who'd received goods damaged in transit? Why repair two boats?

I'll have a dig in my cache to see if the video has been cached locally by my PC.

precisely - make the video live again.  I would be nice to watch it properly, rather through a buffering iPhone.
