Went somewhere between the most sensible and second most sensible. Plenty goodness with minimal risk..
You can use rhino for 2d it's just not as good as autocad/progecad imo. I have the level 1 orca plug in and it was 600. Just does floatiness and that's about it. The more expensive one does weight and cost mgmt. which can be done in excel anyhow. I've been a little disappointed with orca 3d tbh, not masses of functionality and a few really annoying bits. That said it's very nice keeping the nav arch and product design in the same package. |

Which variant did you pick Dan? Can you not use Rhino for the 2d stuff too? Finally, is Orca3D any good, it costs more than Rhino itself doesn't it?

Sorry to be thick about this Dan but when you say 'plug is in progress' do you mean that you or someone else is messing about with wood, chicken wire, clay and plaster or is it all more technical these days?

No mate - trial will be happening next year, will do the engineering of the transverse arms on this to be capable of being lengthened in the case that the trial is positive and stuff moves forwards.

Work in progress - plug is in build. All the other stuff is coming to some level of completion.
For those wanting to do boat design economically, I use Rhino with a couple of plugins. You could probs use delftship or another free program, but i now use Orca3D which is just about adequate and saves importing back and forth. I have a posh renderer which i will hopefully have results imminently. Rather than spending a grand on AutoCAD for 2D line drafting I have ProgeCAD which is basically a fully legal copy at a quarter of the price. ![]() |
