Have just received Santa list from daughter (16)
She is laser sailing throughout the winter and wants to be a bit warmer as my hikers are making her cold :( The options are so far are:- 1. Zhik super warm top and bottom 2. Neil pryde elite heatseeker (FireWire) 3. Rooster super therm They are all pricey but she is sailing at Largs throughout the winter and does not want a dry suit What would folk recommend or have I missed out something ![]() We set a price to spent on the kids for Xmas so choosing the most expensive just means more of the budget is used up on sailing gear Her fellow sailors are using a mixture of all three Suggestions great fully accepted Graham |

Hi Graham,
I am very happy with my NP Elite Matrix set. I can only imagine that the new Heatseeker/Firewire will be just as comfy and even warmer. While I like kit from Rooster in general, I did not like the SuperTherm at all. It was much less stretchy than the NP or Gul stuff and I felt less flexible in it. But your mileage may vary. Chris

I'd also check out the Sandiline range myself- - cut above any other hikers I've ever used, and fairly sure they do women's specific winter range.

I've just paired a NP Firewire Longjohn with a Matrix Top. The latter was a real bargain as NP are discontinuing the Matrix range. Not used it yet, but worked up a real sweat rying it on at home this morning
All the suppliers I spoke to couldn't give any reason to go for the Zhik Superwarm other than stock availability, which might be an issue with the NP kit.

Of all the brands, the one that scores the least for me is Zhik. Overpriced cheap tat sold on the premise that its good quality imported stuff of champions.

Oh! I really like the Zhik stuff, keeps me almost too warm and is very comfy. I would choose it over a Rooster any day. I have no experience of NP, but have heard good reports. My current hikers are Magic Marine and I really like them.

I'm with nessa here. I have owned various bits of Zhik kit over the years and I found it to be excellent. With some really well thought out features. Sure the quality is not up to the level of Sandiline, but I never had any issue.

I was bought some Zhik kit a few years ago, luckily I didn't pay for it. My first impressions were ok, but it went downhill quickly. The boots only lasted a series and the rest of the kit was very badly worn by the end of the season. Since then I have gone back to Ronstan, Gill & Neilpryde. My 3/4 length Neilpryde summer suit is awesome when it's warm and the Ronstan skiff suit for the rest of the year. And I have been impressed with my Gill trapeze boats.

I've not been impressed by my Zhik stuff. Comfy but falls apart very easily. Had one suit replaced when it fell apart after two weeks, a pair of boots that lasted less than a year and the replacement suit is falling apart at the seams just 18 months in. At such a price premium over Gill etc I asumed it would be better, but it isn't.
