Blueone, I’m sorry you have lost me. It’s not
hypocritical at all. YOU are the one that moans about people’s opinions. Not
me, I am happy for anyone to have an opinion. That’s why I use forums; I enjoy
debating the positives and pitfalls of many different aspects of the sport. I
have yet to see you add anything constructive. You like jumping in to arguments
with complete moot points. There is nothing Hypocritical in what I write. Whereas
some of the guff you post is the very definition of hypocrisy. I completely and utterly believe in free speech, in
every aspect of life. I completely believe in democracy also. If you or others don’t
like what others write then have a debate about it. It amazes me why you use a
forum or Facebook group. You don’t like posts about PY's, you don’t like
talking about or explaining why someone’s choice is wrong. You won’t discuss
the merits or faults with another boat unless it’s via PM...The mind boggles. At least I am clear in how I operate. I have chosen
to buy a boat and help build an association around my chosen purchase. Yes I
use this forum to help promote the class. I have never hidden this. I have not
used Y&Y to discredit the aero as a boat. I have however been vocal about
how it’s marketed. That 'My Friend' is my prerogative, unlike you I put my
money where my mouth is and bought a boat! I am a consumer with disposable
income and I have the right (remember we live in a country whose very
foundation is built on freespeech and democracy) to question something I don’t feel
is balanced or represented. I am sorry
if you don’t like what I write, because it does not fit in with any of your
agenda. However I won’t stop asking
questions and challenging things. FWIW I think RS have handled the capsizing ‘Issue’
very well. To the point where I have not
mentioned it. Not once. You also know that I have made sure anything
written about the Aero on the Zero FB page is also balanced. Moderating posts and having words with people
when I felt something was a little close to the bone. So as my last word on the matter, if you really don’t
like what’s being talked about on Y&Y make some of your own threads and
encourage conversation and debate. |

there is a large gulf between taking aim with the sarcasm canon at a product, or even a brand- usually about how it is trying to promote itself rather than the product per say; than the calling out the apologists do, which tends to be personally charged and aimed to discredit opinion of individual forum users. Vociferous or otherwise, passing opinion on product, brand and dinghy development is, imho, far less obnoxious than the biting back some do aimed squarely at individuals. To then say 'it's not good for the sport' as it's riddled with in-fight is highly laughable. Anyway, let's move on- Old Timer's post is a far better contribution to the thread and the forum than this one, and your one which incited it.

A very interesting observation. One to ponder.

You forgot RS300 - look at our (first) take on the Laser ![]() To be fair the 200 and the 400 are doing pretty well and are probably the classes that RS sell a good number of new boats to each year as well as having achieved enough critical mass at club level with a good secondhand market. They have also attracted some of sailings rock stars (who are not, to my knowledge, paid jockeys). Having sailed the both they are both nice boats, I am just too big for a 200 (at the front at least). The only other RS classes that they are seeming to actively support these days are the Feva and Tera. All the others look to be there for historical reasons and at least 1 is going their own way (RS300). You did miss RS mentioning that they were not 'aiming at the laser market' then publishing a press release saying it was a Laser for the 21st century ![]() I do agree with Null, now they have published advice on capsize recovery they have shown that they are aware of what people are reporting are have taken appropriate steps to address it.

It is rather a shame that the nationals attendance data does not go back more than 10 years; Y&Y must have the figures ... it would be interesting to see the data from the late 90s as I recall the Merlin somewhat struggling in that phase as the 400 did very well ...

To my amazement I have been posting on here for 9 years! What a different place it was back then, there were even YOUNG people asking about technical matters and sailing technique. What seems to have happened is that discussion seems to have polarised around specific subjects of a largely political nature and the participants have aged and become more reactionary. The closest we have been to the old days is young Fuller wanting to use copper nails. However back in the old days he would have been treated with respectful condescension wheras now the tone is more contemptuous mirth. I knew nothing then and I know nothing now, the difference being that these days I don't care. I still enjoy it all though even if the forum members do resemble those old blokes in the theatre box featured in the Muppets.

Plastic Nails tick I want to use plastic nails and not on my fingers...
Come on the rest of you, call it a day, we don't need a decent company that still actively produces racing products rather than washing up bowls bashed to the point they give up, just consider how much that Devoti would have been if they hadn't been aware RS were coming to market as well, dwell on that for a moment. To be fair Tick, the world has moved on somewhat in the last 9 years. Social media and facebook being the biggest contriobutory factors. Why bother to take the time registering here when you can just click join and post on a facebook page?
