Matt- it's an awesome photo sir, just in case my joshing with Mike was taken too literally.

The whole package concept is, imho very attractive now there's only one mast required.

The early Blaze hull had 4 adjustment positions on the wings - all since about 1999 should have had just 2.  These are the widest ones possible on original kit.

Can't go wider legally tho, am I right ?

Don't start telling 'them' here about speed ... you will quickly attract all the 'speed anoraks' and trolls out of the woodwork.  Just say something like "'It can go nearly as fast as some Albacores" without any hard number being mentioned and you might just survive !

I've got a few more shots from that race . I'll dig em out for the anti yellow brigade. My old L4000 was yellow as well.  Cool
I must admit I can't sustain that level of hiking for too long.
Fyi my speed puck clocked 18.2 at Northampton.
Earlier in the thread there was mention of 4 settings for the racks. I've only ever found two sets of holes. Are there more ?
I'd like fixed carbon racks , poss a mps style system. Not gonna happen tho I doubt.

6'2" and 95 kg ain't that big ....

Hi Matt

For a Halo .. and on the sea maybe !   We do have plenty of Haloists who 'admit' to 110-120 and more kg.  You can also get around OK if you are a 'puny' 80ish kg with Halo rig  but in any proper breeze you really will not worry the big guys competitively - much better to use the Blaze one then.

Totally agree with you about the windage advantages - and what's wrong with salt water and wind as a 'natural hair care therapy' anyway ?   Wink

As for the yellow hull .... great until the insects get going again next spring.

Firstly there is nothing wrong with my old yellow boat, I wish I'd never sold it. ( if Ian Sanderson wants to sell it back I'll take it.
Second, it's on the plane, the photo boat was stationary to windward.
6'2" and 95 kg ain't that big.
I save a fortune on hair care products ( slap a bit of seal and glide on occasionally ) and it's less windage.

Pulllers ?  Well they pull of course !

I'm not sure it works on a yellow boat either or make you attractive to the opposite sex but then I don't use one myself .. and I sail with a light grey hull anyway.  Just another way of bending the mast without having to apply lots of kicker if you want to go that way  .... but you can do it when you don't carry jibs, other sails or insist that your stick has to support itself in isolation.  There are other advantages claimed by some.

btw - Wingmasts were rejected way way back for use with the Blaze hull and no production wing rigs were ever sold.... conclusion after full testing ?  Complex, less flexible in practical use, pricey and relatively heavy was the thinking at the time.... and if anyone wants a total bargain and a bit of a play today I still have sails (North) and masts available all for a very very modest sums !  All vgc of course ...  Wink

I noticed the puller (a stay beloved of those with masthead rigs who want some pre-bend, in my experience - what's wrong with spreaders/kicker on a Halo?)

My other thought was, "I thought the original Halo had an over-rotating mast; that baby-stay can't have helped".
