Between two boats sailing in different races what applies: the collision regulations or RRS?
Thanks, Steve = : ^ )

If they are both racing and there are no other factors then they are bound by the RRS regardless of if they are in different races (and if they are both under racing conditions).

Thanks for the reply. I'm wondering what happens in the case where it's not obvious whether a boat is racing or not.

COLREGS apply then. RRS do not replace COLREGS obligations and a boat that is not racing is perfectly entitled to sail through a racing area (although some might say this is a silly thing to do). Depending on the event size there may be some kind of exclusion zone or navigational restriction in place which might help when dealing with non-racing boats.

I guess you are thinking of privately owned water there? I wouldn't like to try to enforce that in the Channel.

Hence why I said may not would. I am pretty sure there were navigational restrictions in place for the Olympic sailing event (I could be wrong though)

Exclusion zone for the AC too.
RRS certainly apply, but maybe common sense needs to on occasion, too. |

Some people need to learn that rule - we've had someone try to deny us water at the mark because we weren't in the same race - even though we all went off on the same start and same course on a puddle!
