Yes, they were twin wire from 1984. In many ways my dream boat a Howlett 1B. Wasn't keen on where the 14s went aesthetically post amalgamation....

Not that I would say no to a spanky new one you understand...

The first Ovington-built Howlett 1Bs hit the water at the start of 1991 (I had the 2nd one out of the mould).

Sure mike can say the right numbers but I think they were early 13 hundreds the one I sailed once was 1314. I think (could be wrong) Dave built about 40 of these boats and they were built in carbon!

Mike bz I was reading an old y&y in the bath a few days ago as you do!!! and came across a right up on the skiff skippers for that year. You were there and you said the best way to prepare for skiff sailing was to have a nice cup of tea…. Is that what you have told the new boys with the blue skiff?

Ours was 1302.  1314 was Howard's wasn't it?

I've neglected to pass that bit of advice on to them... well you don't want to give all your secrets away do you?   Tea before racing, beer afterwards.  Actually with some of the racing I do these days (here) it's beer during sailing and beer afterwards.

By a curious coincidence (or not) my step from 14s to 18s was on to the back of Base 1.  Boy was that fun.

Apologies for hijacking the thread...

Mike

Yes 1314 was Howard’s, I sailed it with the next owner. I then sailed with Howard in an ovi2 and b2 for 2 years. Funnily enough he now owns the 14 me and Adam Ovington sailed at the worlds 2007.

I jumped into the front of barron and smithers 18 for 2 years before being allowed to the back of base 1 when rob d decided to take some time out. New big square top north sails coming this winter so cant wait to sail with them.
