Read into it with whichever slant you like.  Those are the facts.

As far as the class goes, we now have an association.  We are in the process of selecting a venue for our first meeting where a committee can be voted in. My he then elected members will set about their duties and (I hope) provide the association members with a long term foundation for which the class to grow.  Not to mention the press release also mentions we have now agreed our first national championships...must be something commercial in there as well hey?

The zero committee will be made up of members, not run as a business by a business.  No one will be paid and it will be run by volunteers.

RYA affiliation to one side, very few member of this forum can deny its a pretty big landmark in the early development of class when a class association is formed.  What's also impressive in my opinion is that we have come this far since March when the boat was launched at the show.

I think the parties involved with this. Who have given their time up for free to get this work done deserve a big pat on the back (and definitely a beer or 2).

Having set up a couple of associations in my time (non sailing related) it is not easy especially getting the paperwork right so you can get the right kind of bank account and tax status and approval/recognition by the relevant stakeholders.

Having the RYA approve the class is good, it is our governing body saying we like what we see. There are a range of benefits which the class may never use but are always useful to have there (legal advice being one of the most useful ones, I am pretty sure Hunts has made use of that in the past).

Unlike other recently launched classes the D-Zero class is an amateur run class. Those involved will be doing it for the benefit of the boat and to get the class the exposure it certainly deserves.

As for the EN comment, I am pretty sure we have been told that until there is some data in the system an EN will not be published and it is down to clubs to issue a TN in line with the PY system usage documents..... Having an affiliated CA does not get you a number (it may have been true a few years ago, but would appear to not be now). Perhaps the PYAG people who lurk round here might care to pass comment?

James, i had my arse handed to me twice this weekend by Stu.  It was absolutely perfect conditions for him.  Fully powered and flat hiking.  I just couldn't get near him.  Even when nailing a start i was clear ahead fo the fleet and the little sod just skimmed past me.  It was just absolutely plum his conditions.    i think its the first time the little sh*t beat me in his life.  I had even told him that every time he is cheeky i will beat him by another minute.  I suspect in a drifter or in proper hiking conditions it will be a very different outcome.

Come on Jimbo, you should be aiming to be back on the water by then me ol china!!

... what and be shamed by having my ass handed to me by Russell?

No chance, I'd rather charter a D-One at a usury rate and personally send the photograph of me smiling when sailing it to Luca ;-)

well that would be an awesome singlehanded sailing regatta then wouldn't it?  Thumbs Up

Just to clarify the last indications were that the D-Zeros will be sharing their Nationals next year with the D-Ones, Contenders and Musto Skiffs.

FWIW -  I wouldn't rush the International Class thing, there's a whole load of onerous red tape and if not handled right, can make your first big events - like World Championships, look a bit, well 'noddy', if you're not too careful.

I firmly believe the D-Zero has the makings a great modern classic, and you guys are treading a respectable path on that journey.

You have a modern precedent to follow- hook up with the MPS fleet and ask about their successes and what they might do differently with hindsight.  There's no competition in terms of the style of sailing both boats offer- I don't think they'd have anything to fear from talking with you guys.
