I took my kids to a bowling alley once. It scared (or is that scarred) me for life. Anything is preferable.

Well today I took an absolute kicking from the other zero at our club.  It was a light day probably 5-7knts., the young lad in the other zero has had his boat for a few months and he probably weighs 10stone soaking wet! I finished 3 and 4th.  Frankly I sailed like a moron.  I struggled tacking, think I am over rolling the boat as I'm told I stopped through the tacks whilst my buddy in the other boat kept momentum.   Perhaps it's time to think about that training thread and get some time in the boat! Still loving it, but without the sweet tast of victory I did swear at the boat for the first time today!

Today at Grafham.  There were five out in the morning, looking good.

According to received wisdom he should be struggling with lack of weight a lot of the time in the D-0.  How is he getting on? (Standard rig, I take it?)

Looked like they were having good close racing. Probably, in those conditions, more fun than a fast asymmetric. Which wasn't so much fun.

Yep he is using a standard rig.  He appears to be getting on well.  I'm going to suggest that above 10 knots we will be evenly balanced.  Me fully powered whilst he will be dropping traveller and applying cunno.  I would suggest that in my arrogance I expected that I could jump straight back in a boat and be up to speed straight away, I need to crack trim and turning corners pretty quickly as I'm off the pace.

FWIW - having had bouts of time off the water, I always found a GPS a fundamental training aid- for what little I did- you can probably still sail as fast as you once did when you get in the groove, it's just that you'll have long periods of drifting right off mentally, especially upwind. In the Solo I used to try to keep moving upwind at 4.5knots +, it's amazing how quickly you can drop concentration and see that plummet to 3 or so.
