HALO (and 'Fire') ....

   Ho w much more would it weigh if those one-piece wings went out to 2.48?  i.e. how much does an extra 0.96m of carbon tubing plus tramps* weigh?
* these can be pretty minimal from what I see at WSC.

	The Fire 'special' hull finally arrived here last night .... It is obviously rather light to start, comes with residial wings (ie also very light, fixed and (after a lot of discussion) now set at 1.90m.... This also means no tramps needed etc etc. The prime reason for this particular width was to ensure it would still fit on the bottom level of regular double trailers ! It will now be roped out and fitted with its carbon rig. It looks fantastic and very minimalist. You will have to take my words on it for now as we may keep any official pics off forum until it is reviewed externally. Anyway we will very soon test 'uber-light and narrow' (if you can call 1.9m 'narrow' !) against the regular ('heavy' if you are GRF but then he's never sailed a minumum 'standard' weight one I'm guessing) and 2.48m wide. The earlier trials did suggest that our target groups were happy to trade 'lightweight' for 'leverage' but we'll now run the same group tests again. Previously for them it was especially important to manage well and enjoy higher winds and this meant leverage. Therefore if the previous results are repeated/confirmed we'll standardise 'Fire' on the regular wings. This makes sense particularly for those who may want to sail with the regular Blaze rig as well as the Fire one..... However you have to try things and remain open up to the very last minute...... And the 'special' hull will not be wasted ... Oh no . Mike L.

	Well I would expect the blaze to be faster. But not staggeringly, not sure what it would prove anyway? Maybe a drag race against an rs300 would be a better comparison?

	Sounds like a bit of a challenge ! If you are serious we would welcome you along to Burghfield and the opportunity to see how it compares to a 'single sail' D1 (what has the PN got to do with it after all ?). As for weight ... Is there a published weight for the D1 ? Blaze/Halo with correctors is 72kg but the rig is much lighter than the D1's. Sail area is about the same around 11.5m and width/leverage not so far apart. 	I've sailed it single sail round the cans, but the py stuffs it and it's just depressing not to be using the kite.

	D-one sails really well in single sail mode and I shouldn't think there is much weight difference between the boats.

	I will bring the d one to Burghfield sometime. It will be interesting to compare it with the Halo.

	Maxi / Paul Simple is more often best in my view as well .... anyway regards Phant/Blaze these things are usually not 'better' they are just different... BTW I do think Maxi would really love a go with the Halo rig. (you know where to contact us etc ) Mike L.

	Thanks Mike and Paul. I avoid the boom in the water issue by keeping the boat flat, but I know what you mean. I'm heavy enough to get away without doing masses of rig raking, I just get in it and sail. Keep the boat simple. Tried a finn once, nearly nice but I couldn't be bothered with the arsing around to get it all set up properly to go the speed you should do. That what galena when you are brought up in smods I guess
