For context - Burghfield SC is well known to many of you and has just about 180 acres of usable water.
Works for most classes both single sail and asymetric but has proved tough for the singlehanded trapeze boats in the past and double trapeze ones would be unlikely to work well either... Fireballs, 500's and similar seem fine as do most 'general purpose' asymetrics and regular hiking spinnaker boats. Mike L. |

Whitefriars is about 80, and Frensham always seems much bigger - far further between the marks!

The whole common/nature reserve at Frensham is about 1,000 acres, think the pond is nearer 60.

Frensham is not hugely bigger than Hunts, I think we have 70 acres of water.

I'd not be surprised if Frensham was 300 acres, but unless there are a lot of reed beds, 1000 does seem a lot!

Frensham .. 1000 acres ? Thats the size of QMSC ....
![]() As for the Blaze hull character ... well wide wings are rather useful but it sometimes pays to dump a little power and sit half committed rather than 'muscle' it from the limits of the wing (and you) in really gusty stuff inland ! If you sheeted off the boom you would find every tack is 1/3rd quicker and critically without any real loss of speed - you keep forward and really must not depress the stern. Have a look at one thats been changed next time you see a few. Mike L. |

It's hard to say how well suited it was to Foremark as it was my first boat and will likely have gone better in different hands. When it was blowing hard it was great fun but then I used to spend more team on a close reach than a proper beat in those conditions. The main issue was that it seemed to be predominantly light winds that year and that's were it struggled because against the phantoms it has virtually no rocker and no matter how far forward you sit it will always drag more arse in the water compared to them. The other issue was the sudden shifts that we suffer with inland. You can be hiked all or most of the way out and then bang, you're on your arse and the rig is coming over on top of you because there isn't enough time to get off the rack and into the middle. I also struggled with offwind speed, but I doubt that's the blaze's fault as I'm just as bad in the phantom now. Comparitively, the Frensham website says its 1000 acres, Foremark is about a quarter of that. |

Successfully confusing ambition with ability since 1980.
