Are there any pictures of the new Halo rig?
Hi Toby - Will be sorted very soon. The fact is all the production Halo2 sails we pre-ordered was sold in 48 hours of announcement and were delivered/shipped on arrival. Yes - there was a fair bit of latent demand out there ... we underestimated. But hopefully will have another one at least for initial 'on-the-water' shots this weekend. It would have been a bit hard on someone if we had kept one back and waiting for marketing type 'sun n wind'. In the meantime I'll trawl through the R&D images and see what is presentable.. We've got some nice Fire ones at least. Mike L. One a seperate subject - I've sailed a Blaze a couple of times in the Frensham Frenzy. No problem and it is a great club (but I do generally prefer larger waters personally). Don't see any reason why the larger Halo2 with its acceleration could not work as well. The key I think is the switch to 'off boom' sheeting with the Blaze/Halo/Fire hull (in fact it is an option)- It allows the crew to tack with their weight much further forward. The old centremain system was OK but forced the crew back down the boat making tacking a fair bit slower as you could depress the stern - especially if you were of a generous size ! This single change makes the hull much more suited to these smaller waters now - the 'sacrifice' involved with each tack is today token at worst. There are other real advantages but this one was a key one. Edited by blaze720 - 24 Sep 14 at 9:31am |

Frensham is an ocean compared to where I sail.

I found Frensham pretty big compared to most of the places I've been a member of over the years.

Frensham definitely IS a pond (its even called a pond) Anything much smaller might be termed a puddle ? |

I aail at Foremark reservoir south of Derby. I thought it was a fairly big puddle and have contemplatd an RS100 in the future after reading Clive's comments about how they're not that bad to sail inland. That was until I went on google maps and realised that Frensham "pond" where he sails is anything but a pond and four times the size of Foremark.

perhaps your puddle isn't that small... it's just very far away?

If it is suitable for a Blaze it should be fine for Halo as well ... BTW It does not just have to be for light winds if you are heavy enough anyway any more than for say a D1 ...
I agree with the benefit of hindsight (everyone is gifted with it !) we should have developed the sail originally for standard spars. Incidentally the revised version also has a revised logo / insignia on it... Too many people asked 'what is it ?' so now the insignia is based on the word ... 'Halo' just as it does with the much smaller 'Fire; sail option. Keeps it nice and easy .... and obvious. Where do you sail ? Mike L. Edited by blaze720 - 23 Sep 14 at 2:02pm |

If the new Halo setup had been available 18months ago I'd have probably not swapped by Blaze for a Phantom. It seemed like a light wind year in 2012 and the Blaze was just sticky on our puddle.
Mike, do you think there's an optimum size of puddle for a Halo under which it becomes too to get into that extra gear? |
