The intricacies of their respective employment statuses are not really the point I was making. Two men, very well respected within UK sailing community, are actively promoting two new classes of dinghy on a commercial level.
I wish them both well and hope they can find commonalities rather than confrontation in their approach. RS certainly appear to be de-tuning the hyperdrive and focusing on club development, which can only be a good thing. As for the handicap- I agree, it will be divisive if it appears one is favoured over the other, and I wouldn't charge that as exclusive to this event. And yes, the response has always been the RYA need returns before issuing anything. Is either on the online list yet with an EN? Alex/Jim??? FWIW, have the PYAG been consulted with regards handicaps for these classes for this event? I don't see anywhere that they have. Nor do I see anywhere published what handicap the Aero or the Zero will be running either.... so I guess as Dan says, best not worry about it. People will probably choose the boat that is sailed at their local club, not what churns up a better corrected time in some fluke-fest. Failing that, they'll probably choose the Zero is they have any discernment about them ;-)

Seems only reasonable, now then, for David to submit a test report of the D-Zero for publication in Y&Y ?

I believe there is something in hand to get a Zero test in Y&Y in the near future.

Sorry i wouldn't know (I just do our numbers).
To be honest I wouldn't be surprise if no number came out for the two boats in March next year. There'll be so little data from the few boats actually sailing it'll need all of next year to get something reasonable out of the system. As a club we've based it on the GL numbers but added 10pts onto them as a starting point. We update our PY's twice a year so if our local number is drastically different, we don't have to wait all year to change it. Alex |

James, here is the link for you.
written in the RYA format, with their logo on the top of the page. As you know they wont give PY guidance to a class, however with no data they have drawn the above as a conclusion...

Not to my knowledge. No idea why there's an RYA logo on that doc, but think there's some mountain building going on. Whatever it is, it doesn'tlook to me like a document that has any weight beyond throne event. Edited by JimC - 18 Sep 14 at 1:34pm |

For the sake of clarity and transparency, the D-Zero CA papers have been submitted to the RYA for approval and adoption of the class. The only two names on the application are two keen amateurs, our CA is a members organisation.

Exactly my thoughts Jim, its what made it look even fishier to me! It certainly looks like the official RYA PY list that gets published. Bit naughty using the RYA logo if it is not affiliated to the RYA or indeed approved by any of the committee technical or otherwise. As it stands it looks like (on RYA backing) that a D-Zero and Aero PY have been given, just be keen to see any data! has there even been any returns for either classes yet? Russ
