Sorry to hear that, I hope the family are okay.

I'm heading tomorrow first thing - via Little Chef. It will be the highlight of the weekend judging from Windguru - apart from buying you a beer of course ;-)

I'm off to the father in laws funeral now, it's the 2nd Funeral this week, depending how long it goes on I'll either leave straight after, or tomorrow first thing, the boys are already down there.

skunked for NWF by the looks of things..... 2-5 knots is below my sailable threshold, looks like I will just have to have a few beers and make a royal nuisance of myself in the kite surfing tent.

Well I'm glad to hear it, honestly I felt I was actually in shock yesterday after all that, it makes it worse i guess all that swimming about in fresh water, that's not fun. Funny I was telling this relatively new chap who is a bit sea shy, how much easier everything is on the sea, it's why we come down here said I, to get better at boat handling, mark rounding, wind shift appreciation, capsize recovery however isn't part of the deal, it's a lake, the waters flat, we shouldn't be the only one chucking himself into the bottom of the boat with the sheet uncleated allowing the boom to go ahead of the mast and be rolling about in the scuppers of the wrong side shortly to become a new addition to pond life.

haha - that's brought back memories of deliberately controlled-capsizing Lasers at windy wing marks as it was still quicker than tacking around them   LOL

The better you get and the more rarely you capsize, the worse capsizes become, at least that's my experience.

Your average Laser beginner has his leg over the side ready with every passing gust, so dry capsizes are the norm. As you progress, you just aren't geared up for them so they become more of an issue. And, of course, you have become more accustomed to a decent result, so the effects of a capsize become more 'disastrous'.

Yeah, I agree, I hate capsizing. So much , in fact, that the K1 looks interesting. Except I like chatting to a crew; pity the K2 is so staid.   Maybe K3 will be a racy trap boat. The keel bulb weight becomes less significant to performance the bigger the boat.

Why? Has to be the inevitable next question, then, when we're talking about our 'sport' and its decline, do we regard sailing those things as doing the same thing we're doing? I mean in the way you view lead mining, surely it's the same sort of thing?

I guess you have to, they've got sails, pointy at the front, wiggle thing at the back, except it has men dressed in anoraks and sou'westers ..

What have I become?
