Actually this is the third or fourth time in various threads recently that the usual not a sea boat rubbish has been trotted out. And in each of the other cases there has been an unwillingness to accept the facts presented. So I'm not sure there's much point in a media campaign....it's human nature to take the negative. And might smack of desperation..... The fact is the builder has changed. We're still an RS class. We're still getting a massive proportion of the boats built at events. And we're still having fun on the best ride since.....censored.

Well if that's the facts perhaps the class should shout about it rather than talking about it in their own Facebook group or in the confines of trying to defend itself in a forum thread.
Like it or not the current situation is muddy for those that do not follow the class as much as some others with a soft spot or interest. That's the media campaign the class should adopt. The changes are absolutely positive in my opinion, it should be something to shout about. But I just don't see much from the RS association. If I was still in the fleet I would absolutely be bringing this up. You just need kt look at the excellent work Mike and the blaze class has done (with in my opinion a inferior boat - IN MY OPINION) they have developed the class into so tithing quite special, but kept the development in the public domain. That way criticism and objection can be handled publicly. I can honestly say that the 300 not being a sea boat, is certainly not a common theme on this forum. Please quote the threads. I would of corrected the poster as much as you, I just think there has been one misinformed comment on/in this thread. Frankly the 300 is great fun on the sea, so the whole argument is a little bizarre....

Inferior ? .... We would simply not make the impressive turnout we achieve through smart organisation alone if the boat itself was not right.
High marketing spend and a lot of drum banging on this and other forums cannot make up for a boat if it is not right or simply too specialist in the long term. When that 'push' runs out of steam, and the keyboard monkeys are off to the 'next best thing' it is only the core owners who can keep the class going forward ... and they only do that if the package is pretty much right in the first place.
![]() Mike L. PS ... BTW I've never heard anyone say the Blaze was not a true sea boat ... or a competent inland one either for that matter. The worst comment receieved in recent years was that the Blaze was perhaps too easy ... well until the individual concerned tried out in a borrowed boat at one of the larger events... but maybe that was not really the boat ![]() |
