Please can I ask for some assistance from the collective wisdom here present in identifying the right boat for a milanes rudder. Belongs (for reasons lost in history) to a non-sailing person and I've offered to help find a good home.
The CV stock says 8160, which according to the CV website is a Contender….does this look like the right shape? Tiller has a kink in it that appears deliberate, to raise the end a few inches. Thanks! |

Could be a fit on a number of dinghies - i had a similar rudder on a merlin rocket - an NSM design from the 1980s. It would help to know the overall length of the rudder blade and the distance between the bearing surfaces of the rudder fittings.

The blade is out of class for a contender, and usually the contender stock is not kinked so on first look I'd say not a contender rudder.

Id suggest given the tiller kink that it almost certainly started life on a 70's or early 80's Merlin with a low transom but high side decks at the rear end. It's certainly not the original rudder for the boat if indeed it did come off one of these!
M&W made two CV stocks, one high transom one low. This will be a low transom stock, and will suit Lark, Fireball, Merlin, Phantom etc etc though the blade will be out of class for some of those. The high stock was for the GP14/Enterprise and while outwardly similar is a very different size and would never have carried a blade that looked like that! There was never to my knowledge a stock specifically for the contender, though the low one would suit. hope this helps :)

something where the helm shoves the tiller between legs to hoist, I'd reckon, probably a tall fella given the kink in the tiller....

Thanks everyone….it's in amazing condition for something that seems 20+ years old. Will get the measurements and then try and find a good home!
