Mike / Rupert the 100 is a semi soft sail. Its only the d-one that is fully battened.

It was the Vareo sail I was referring to, I think?

I was 82kg and 6ft'3 and went with the 8.4, partly because I could only really justify the cost of one sail. RS kept trying to push me up a rig size but I stuck with it and ordered an 8.4. I could see exactly this happening.

The only reason I am glad that I don't have my 100 anymore is the huge drop in price of the second hand boats. In fact, it isn't even that huge really. I just happened to get out at exactly the right time and sold my boat for a figure nearly double what the cheaper boats are going for now.

It's a good boat, a really good boat.

Silly question maybe, but if the 100 is such a good good boat why ditch it so early?

Surely enjoyment is the main reason for sailing, not the residual value of the boat!

Having had a D-One since day one(ish), mine's going after four years of blasting around because of the 'Old Age' factor Nick mentioned! It's worth what someone is willing to pay for it - end of story

Hi Simon

Yes I know about the 100s rig having sailed one a few times (you have got to try /study everything if you do this stuff ...)  and I'm sure you can do the same thing in survival conditons when gybing .  The Blaze rig is a fair bit higher aspect and the rig is almost certainly a lot lighter but I've not weighted the one off a 100 yet.  I still like my (proper) rigging wires as well personally !

Now I'm really off this thread .....

Simple, I had to move for work so didn't want to be taking a boat with me. It was a change of circumstances rather than a calculated decision.

Are you suggesting the new location might not have been suitable for sailing a 100?

I don't think Clive will agree with you. (irrespective of where it is  LOL)

On the 100 if it was howling you didn't have far to go as the stays limit mast rotation. In the d-one, the final get out of jail is to dump the main and it flys off as there is no stay to hit,. Not saying its pretty, but can stop a swim. I know that it shouldn't come to that etc etc, but sometimes it just does...

+1 for me, sailing in a gusty venue, dumping the main stops a lot of swims, I often tuck the main sheet tail into my ba so it's at hand, last resort; spiny halyard trip line or kicker dump

No, not at all. Just moving your whole life to a new part of the country is that little bit easier when you don't have to tow a boat, find somewhere to keep it, find people to race against... etc...

I also don't have nearly as much free time anymore so sailing has taken a bit of a back seat.
