There is more rocker than you might think, its certainly not skiff like in that regard. plus its quite long which helps. It would take about 2000kg to sink one - any volume more than a couple inches above waterline is just drag - "high volume" being a light air boost is only applicable in boards where the lower volume boards are a) generally shorter and b) have more water wrapping around the topsides onto the deck increasing wsa etc. Not the same in boats. Stern is out if you are sitting level with mainsheet cleat, you can get more out of you go further fwd. No need for funny tapering.
The orig punk was skinnier in the transom, but I built it out a little to enhance the reacharounds.
