Am sure I saw an inspection hatch suddenly appear on the rudder post of one of the demo boats, but none on the production boat photos. Maybe it's was just for development purposes....

That area of the boat is always a concern and can take a bit of  a hammering, especially with cassette or fixed rudders.

There was always going to be a hatch on the rudder post - perhaps on the other side in the photos of the production boat.

Do you not need a hatch to bolt the pointless on?

Pintles don't you mean?
Not necessarily, if you are going into tapped backing plates. Or if the pintles are put on prior to join.
A lot of boats self tap screws into 18mm ply, which is a perfectly adequate way of doing it.

Ha ha! Yes, autocorrect - what a wonderful invention! I've often wondered why you couldn't just use that 3M Dual Lock strong Velcro-type stuff for attaching pintles.

When I retrofitted the same pintles to the D-One the holes were drilled and tapped M5 with some Sikaflex behind the fitting to seal it.  Four years down the line it's still solid.

Are those pintle things Universal in their dimension? Or do they like just about everything else, vary from one supplier to another?

After this long mate, you know the answer to that question.  But I hand it to you, that's an eloquent rhetorical question making a very good point.
