It's notable that the launch of the D1 and D0 never over promised on performance relative to recognised skiffs in the launch and I suspect as a result the early adopters have/will been happy with what has/will been delivered unlike some of the early RS100 buyers ...

A much better long term strategy but the 100 certainly had a bubble launch ...

Hold your horses, I've already asked for first dibbs on it LOL LOL LOL

Don't think we will have to wait until Christmas to fight over it though. I give it three months from the delivery date, before it's up for sale Wink

i dunno - i remember seeing some grainy bullsh*t video of a D1 sailing with a 700 in the background claiming some speed comparison, despite the obvious difference in downwind angle  Wink

But I agree - no hype & BS with the D-Zero...

I remember that v id Jimbo, Luca was commentating.  If i remember correctly he pointed out that the 700 wast faster with better VMG.  But in terms of straight line speed it wasnt drastically different.  Not sure in the real world that's the case and thank god no other stupid claims started following.  To me the relative speed of a dinghy is not important.  Other than some standing by the bar bragging rights.  We have a handicap system (whatever your thoughts of it) whihc allows many dinghies to race on a levelish playing field.  So it makes no sense to market a boat as being super fast and comparing/making dubious claims

besides, driving to the club house and home again is quicker, even riding a bike there is... assuming speed is 'your thing' anyway.

Took a test drive at Oxford recently. If this were a car I'd say Audi - creative styling, neat design touches and aspirational - yet the price of a Ford for 'early adopters'. If you can handle a Laser you can sail one of these. Off-wind acceleration was smooth and effortless, albeit a marginally wetter ride than comparable singlehanders. Sheet loading is light and the rig is a joy. Boom height is fine (I'm a smidgen over 6ft). Given the blustery conditions, no discernable vices such as nose-diving or getting into irons associated with some established designs. All in all, a boat that ticks a lot of boxes both on and off the water and looks the part. Personally I'd like to see a better solution to the control lines wallowing on the floor out of reach, though it speakes volumes that's my main criticism. As with any new producy launch, only time will tell if durability meets expectations, the class gains traction and fleet racing becomes the norm. If it does, it's a tantalising prospect for those behind the project and I wish them well.

I'm an ordinary club sailor with no industry connections and a place in the queue... thanks too to Oxford SC for hosting the event.
