no stigma against Miracles from me mate- cracking boat, if I were desperate to class race at Draycote, that's what I'd choose. But just not what I'm looking for anytime soon.

The N12 does offer a refined hull design, but thanks to the relatively high minimum weight, there is plenty of material with which to work if cutting things about and moving things around.
Great idea - spend the winter dreaming and doodling, find a well priced boat in the spring and get sailing.
Maybe the only problem with the Rogue Skiff concept was the Skiff part - bung a smallish, flatish reaching kite on a more forgiving hull, go for a blast, have fun, forget the rat race, go swimming, go home smiling.

Yep that's it in nutshell Rupert! Inspired by big guy from Norfolk, but refined into a 12ft pocket rocket... |

HI James
Great Idea. AS you know I've been down the 100 route as well and had simular frustrations. I went back to the Blaze at the time as even though its still flawed it made a much better all round boat for me on our river HOWEVER.... My wife and I finally found our way into a 12 18months ago and we haven't looked back since. We kept avoiding them as my wife was convinced that without a kite she would be bored but she now loves it and to be frank so do I. So much so that I've now sold the Blaze as I'm quite happy to sail the 12 on my own when i want a single hander and we are now on our second one 12. Bought a cheap but good wooden boat to start with (Bicycle Clips which is on the second hand boat list again) and have now moved over to a Carbon boat. I say over as its not necessary better just lower maintenance. To be honest at 100kg your almost on the bottom end of the racing weight range so I don't think you'll struggle that much. Get yourself a cheap boat to start, with a carbon rig (shouldn't be much more than a grand) and try it. O and let us know how you get on Ian

at this moment in time the use of the firefly with it;s N12 DNA as the singlehander at the 1948 Olympics really ought to be mentioned ... in most conditions no reason why not - some of the lighter 2 person crews in a 12 can't be much more than 100kg anyway

the only thing I'd add to this conversation, with regard to Jimbo's requirements, is that I always found the N12 ( and I have had 4: Design 8, Baggy Trousers, Wild Front Ear & Tigress ) to be knee killers. This may be due to my shortness of stature but I always found them a crippling boat to hike hard. I think the combination of side deck width ( at around 8 inches it made two load points that just want to open up the knee joint ) and deep cockpit brutalised my knees and lower back.

Just attempting to dig up a very old thread - did Jeremyc ever get anywhere with his N12 version of a Hadron?

Afraid that for all my best intentions it is still at project stage, so many other commitments and boat building projects on the go that it remains a dream at present. Determined to get it done one day though... just hope it is whilst l can still use it! Both me and my partner both regularly sail foolishes single handed when the conditions are light though.
