The trick in the Blaze (I found) was to crack off a little, get the boat planing then bring it back up without dropping off the plane.

I also found the Blaze was never a 'pointy' boat, you could get it to point very high but it was very slow. Best to be a little lower, go a lot faster and let the foils work properly and lift you (and plane when you could).

Tasar are supposed to plane upwind but as someone said, define upwind. On our little lake we could be quick but would we fetch the mark?

The wind over the plain, helps me plane, so I'm planning to sail there.

Thats sailing on top of a boat wash wave. oh and looking at it I'd guess the boom is well outside the boat so not 'upwind' in racing terms. Lets not get too hyped here.

The boats I sailed are light, handle well on the water and on shore and sail nicely. They can be powered up and down with different sail sizes and are a nice all around and importantly modern boat with a light flexible rig and a proper mast track instead of the laser drainpipe nonsense.  They are perfectly quick and designed by a great designer, but even Jo Richards can't rewrite the rules of physics.

The whole point of this boat is that it is simple and can be used by anyone and they can have good fun in it, a leisure boat, which you can race if thats what you want, or go for a pootle around the bay.  If you want the fastest unarig non wing boat, then get a 300, but the whole point is that the masses and their wives and kids don't want that. Big smile

What like the RS100 was ... a class that is pretty much dead now ...

These over blown claims about new designs only serve to do them damage ...

There are very few dinghies that plan upwind and they are the likes of the 49er, 18, I14, Musto Skiff, RS800 ... all these boats have one thing in common; the leverage to take advantage of the sail plan ... typically using wings and trapeze ... how many hiking boats can really claim to plane upwind? probably only the B14 ... and that has the leverage of a trapeze boat ...
