Bizarre comment, have you been reading this or another thread. Comments have been universally positive as far as I can see. Comments about a split tail to go out to the cleats is hardly negative, just makes getting a quick purchase a bit easier.

personally I'm fond of the less is more approach on this boat, so I'm pleased that the controls aren't led back and complicated with continuous systems and fairleads etc.
One of the small (and relatively insignificant) points of difference between this boat and the Aero was the 'cleanliness' of the layout - no go pro mounts, no GPS / tactick panels etc. So it seems in keeping with the design ethos to maintain simple controls just behind the mast.
Anyway- I like that clip Rodney posted, it shows to me that everything that looked right about the Punk sailing at the FOM seems to have been transcribed into the prototype. Glide... Glide... Glide.... it's the one attribute that my Phantom had that was stunning. It's answered the only pre-sale doubt I had, that being that Holman could sail a tin bath with a linen table cloth and still make it look good. I don't know the chap in the clip or how well he sails etc, but he looks like he's doing okay to me. It gives me hope. Next step - test sailing and demos..... ![]() Edited by yellowwelly - 19 Mar 14 at 9:34am |

James, as i understand it the chap in the clip is more than a little handy in a boat!!! As mentioned earlier, but of armchair sailing from me, which was probably a little unfair as the boat still has some rig refinement as i understand it. Even so it looked pretty damn sweet. I love the way it glides as well, it just looks so damn efficient almost effortless.
FWIW i also agree about the speedpuc, go pro, whatever it is mount thing on the Aero. Great for the first few weeks of owning a go-pro/speed puc. But if your anything like me you soon get sick of Go pro videos (actually literally sick) you also soon understand that none of your friends..Sailors or non-sailors are interested. (Hey maybe thats just me so appreciate that a company like RS will of done the market research and it must be 'Wanted') ot only that but what happens when the technology becomes obsolete? Can you change brackets for the latest bit of kit? Garmin now make a universal qr twist bracket for their cycling GPS so its all inter changeable. Are dinghy suppliers there yet???

All those things fall into 'novelty value', and to me, are 6 years out of date... but this is fashion-stuff, and frankly, it really is an each to his own opinion on such matters. As you say, I'm sure RS has some research/feedback for its inclusion. My Phantom, in 2008 - all that gadgets and crap is not what I'd want now in 2014, and for many, not what that they'd have wanted back then either. ![]() Edited by yellowwelly - 19 Mar 14 at 10:09am |

I was quite impressed by that as well, it was before I really knew you, I remember thinking oh, he looks as if he knows what he's on, just goes to show eh? Big mistake everything you did after that.. ![]() |

I didn't notice the mountings n the Aero. Are they an optional extra?

Yes they are all optional so it's just a case of moaning for the sake of moaning.

hardly moaning, merely observing.... I actually applaud RS, they're getting their timing right, most dinghy sailors are a lot more than 6 years out of date...
