I like the lack of a gunwale lip from a sailing perspective - no big drag increase when you dip the (low)  gunwale in a roll tack or sudden gust.  Also, it means that the full width of the boat contributes to stability as it heels, not just the bit inward of the lip.

Would be nice to hear how best to cope with handling the boat, however, not least in a capsize.  In the case of an inversion, thea lip is a handy step up onto the hull.  Maybe the narrowness of the D-Zero makes it a doddle anyway?

it's going to be interesting... but at least you won't be checking for cracks every time you take the cover off.

Also, that lip is mighty handy when attempting to haul my bulk onto the turtled hull enough to grab the board when upside down. I noticed the RS has this but the D0 doesn't - an issue for the less experienced sailor maybe?
That aside the boat looked lovely

I did wonder that ... With no gunwale lip how will you manhandle it?

I like the no gunwale from a styling perspective.

oh yes... without question.  Attitudes towards inclusiveness are good for the sport and cooperation (to a level) between emerging classes, rather than competition, would imho, be best for all.

Having an option to get a very low cost boat on the water - sub a grand for an old laser and rooster rig, would also encourage people into the fold, who would likely as not, upgrade down the line.

Even the Rooster 8.1 sailors could join in...

I tried to be sensible about it. I had a wander over to the RS stand to check out the Aero but soon after came running back to D-Zero stand for more fondling and to put some cash down on one.

I pretty much agree with everything Dougal said in his comments on the previous page regarding the Aero/D-Zero debate. And also that the black OK was *stunning*.

D0 - I met Dan Holman on the stand, and Rodney, both of whom were very welcoming, informed and great to talk to.  In this economic environment, anyone who is prepared to take on a new project and stick with it for 5 years and then get it successfully launched deserves a huge amount of respect, regardless of what it is.  The boat itself, it looked better in real life than it ever did in the pics.  I am a great believer in if it looks right, it is right, and the D0 looks right.  If I was in the market for a singlehander it would be at the top of the list.

Aero - I'm sorry, but I wasn't impressed.  It just looked wrong to me.  I didn't understand the choice of rigs, some of the fittings and construction decisions looked to me like they were taken to save cost and, at the end of the day, probably most importantly, I didn't get that 'I want one' feeling.

This is of course my opinion only, I obviously haven't sailed either the Aero or the D0 which is of course the acid test, and I am quite sure there are plenty of you who will disagree.

Boat of the show for me - that lovely black OK. Stunning.

I think that pretty much sums up my thoughts ...

Looks fast ...
