I wish them both luck, they look nice and simple, a 300 isn't that for sure... just a shame two buses have come along at once (again).

mylar sail, carbon rig, nicer foils.... why compromise with a 1970s beach boat when there are two new ones to choose from in 2014?
Well obviously, for the class racing, the obscenely low depreciation on a nearly new one and for your children to realise their dreams to be the next Ben Ainslie, but apart from that, what did the romans do for us?

I'm with Haroosh, but then you knew that anyway! But it actually doesn't get much simpler than the 300. Nice is in the eye of the beholder....but he started from fun....and I know Keith, like me and many others (heading for a record nationals this year) would vote for the fun that comes from the challenge in sailing the 300. I'm chuckling now at the memory of him and his lowrider.... The attraction of this boat has got to be its broad appeal. My wife is salivating at the thought of a properly light weight singlehander that has a rig to suit her weight and athletic abilities yet should be fast enough to race in the tide in our harbour, and is going to be suitable for the kids too in a few year's time, and might even interest me (a little) with the big rig (but only if I'm feeling too tired for the 300).

over 50 boat already pre-ordered according to the press release on the front page- good news for this type of boat!!!
I assume that's a possible mix of distributor pre-orders and private customers.... whatever, great stuff... looking forward to seeing them on the water and getting a ride in one one day.

So, 30kgs - more like it for lifting around the place, but will it stand the knocks and bumps of time?

It's perfectly possible to build very strong windsurfing boards for 1/6th of that weight that take a lot more strain, bangs and dings than an average club racing dinghy.
I would have thought material science and some careful design should make that feasible in a small dinghy.... I would expect that after the extensive prototyping referenced in the front page article, RS have got this aspect nailed... they probably could have gone light, but the cost benefit and durability equation might not have been so commercial given what klutzes dinghy sailors are.
