Is that still going on?  Any progress?  Anyone care?

pure speculation, but perhaps the sailing schools are signalling that they're ready to look at alternatives?..... that's the kind of volume that would attract interest, over and above what joe-public might generate in terms of sales

Really exciting pre launch mail from RS, if you look down far enough third or fourth line you'll note they are actually launching a new single hander.. seems very muted.

RS Sailing Dinghy Show Offers

Come and visit us at the Dinghy Show this weekend at Alexandra Palace on stand B60.

This year, we have a whole range of sailboats on display including the recently launched RS CAT16 and RS Venture Keel.

Excitingly, we also have the newest single-hander addition to the RS Range - the RS Aero on display for the first time! super light and super cool - come and check it out to find out more!

Click the page links to check out our 2014 Dinghy Show Offers page 1 and page 2 valid until 5pm on Sunday 2nd March 2014.

Part exchange of your current RS is possible and we will happily work out a simple cost to change and make the process as easy as possible.

Contact Charlie on 07990 573503 or email charlie@rssailing.com for all your RS requirements, new and used.

The early RS boats grew through people sailing the boats and loving them, which worked really well - maybe with the 200 and 400 fewer impulse buy owners sold on quickly, as they weren't drawn in by the hype? RS might have decided to go back to this approach after the trial by internet faced by the 100?

I'm really looking forward to seeing the Aero, and seeing the grin on Charlie M's face as he talks about his baby!

I tried to ring him today to get some idea of price and if there was going to be a boat show deal, particularly for those of us who cut deals on kite kit to RS staff, but no return call as of yet, with the zero rumoured to be as high as the upper 7's with everything, one has to keep ones options open..

Well true to form he rang me back (he usually does) the trouble is he told me so much, and I promised not to divulge stuff like pricing, but some of the other techy bits sound very interesting, not that i have a clue what carbon 'trailers' off the foils means, I assume it's a bit like our merlins rudder which has a sticky out bit at the bottom. He talked of Go Pro mounts and three rig sizes (think i already new about the rigs), he told a tale of one of his guys, Alex picking it up by the mast foot & toe loop and walking it into the water windsurfer launch style, stacking three inside each other on the car roof, some fleet incentives, wednesday night club night visits and a huge push to encourage local rather than travelling use.

It sounds very exciting, talk about two buses coming along, it's going to be a very hectic dinghy show.

I must admit the current chat around the new RS singlehander and Devoti zero are not exciting me at all. What all the fuss about? There's no way they will be near as much fun as a 300. At least the 100 and d1 had the kite aspect to differentiate them. These seem a slight variation on a well used theme? Or maybe I'm missing some amazing design aspect?

yep- that'd be about right.  Nicer to sail, lighter to handle and free from incumbent class baggage be that law suits, flushing strips, minimum hull weights, historic max sail areas.....

multiple sail areas on this specific baby though, and we all know what fun that could have if handled poorly.

I suspect the design aspect you are missing is that the boats are (as far as I can see) designed to be sailable even without constant practice, whereas the 300 will bite you in the ass if you don't sail for a while, if you are an average club sailor.

Unless it's mega cheap it will sell similarly to the 100 and d1. Ok I will remain open minded but just feels like milking a theme in order to drive new sales. Time will tell.........
