choose 8, keep 1, not fair... i want to have them all and many more besides, some great tracks in this thread so far

What a wonderful list, you have good taste. :)

Honky Tonk woman is the best pop record ever made. The second best is 'Me Myself I' by Joan Armatrading. Third is a more difficult decision.

Remember that it is meant to be music that means something, a marker in your life, not just you favorite tracks. When working on our first house in a lovely spring we played Percy Granger Folk songs and Five Bridges by the Nice and the LSO.

Just back from seeing a Michael Jackson Tribute band. Not memorable but what fun!

Right then. Lets have a go at this.
Elton John: Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding

Frank Turner: Love Ire & Song (as an aside, he apparently played his 1520th gig tonight!)

Olympic Opening Ceremony: Caliban's Dream

The National: Conversation 16

The Hold Steady: Constructive Summer

Elbow: Fugitive Motel

Gogol Bordello: Alcohol

Bill Wells & Aidan Moffat: Copper Top

Public Enemy: Harder Than You Think

Public Service Broadcasting: If War Should Come

It'll be different tomorrow. It would be less melancholic if I wasn't at home on a Friday night alone with some scotch, that's for sure.
