What you really need to do Grumpf is get out and sail. Last weekend was perfect for first sail of the year up this way and it did re-ignite the spark for me despite my awful starting.

Looking at that picture, I thought he might like to give the Firefly Nationals a go.

I had to sell the Finn for economical reasons, moved, and in the intervening period have managed to gain so much weight that there is a serious risk of my being harpooned if I am seen in in the water. Or more humiliatingly, being towed ashore by a rescue boat because it's easier than trying to lift me out of the water...

One way to find your mojo is to stop looking. Mojo is not something you find, it finds you.
Finished my season last weekend Nov, been walking the dog, booked a cottage for some winter mountain walking, only a stone wall to rebuild in the garden and I'm sorted for this season.
Already poring over the dates for 2014 travellers and looking forward to trying out a new genoa for demon upwind pace and pointing. |

Sorry to hear all that, there's a bit of a thread running on the Boards forum with a bunch of self styled 'chunky monkeys' trying to motivate each other to lose weight in the quest for early planing. I hate to use the phrase 'dude', but you have seriously got to do something about it, if true, sounds like you have a worse case of mojo loss than me. I'm suffering from a bit of SAD syndrome combined with alcohol abuse and generally feeling sorry for myself getting old all the time, but I've tried to buck up, forced myself to do the local cross country run, even took to road biking in an effort to get some fitness back which will in due course get the mood swings back in the right direction, but it is tough this year, what with the grim weather and rain, not to mention how tough it is earning a living as well. I hope you sort yourself out, you're obviously still keen or you wouldn't be putting in the appearances you do here, you should trade tales with Pond Monkey/Yellow Welly doh I forget what he's currently calling himself but he's on a weightloss mission right now and he wants a Finn. |

Much as I would like a Finn, I can't see myself using it that much while my focus is geared towards windsurfing. Besides it would almost certainly go hand in hand with a change in clubs- one where the handicap racing is over smaller, more restricted courses so they seem less like a cruise in company and more like a proper race.
Bottom line- a Finn is just a bit too extravagant a purchase for something that'll get used less than 20 times a year as a light wind option.... might as well wait until I have either more time, or the windsurfing bug subsides. The Solo has literally just been driven away by its new owner. I am vacant of emotion for it, or for the type of sailing I will now not be taking part in... time for a break from dinghy racing and all the quirks that go with it. I've had some fun & some frustration. I've made a few mistakes and expected too much of myself at points- especially with a young family, but I don't regret much in life and certainly not a lot when it comes to sailing toys- there's no point, there's only the future to look forward to and the challenges and opportunities that it brings. ![]() |

she sat in it on the drive / at the office a couple of times, but we had the boat at the pond all summer and never once bothered going over as a family- either other commitments, being on holiday, crappy weather etc. meant it was a non-starter.
Nice idea at the time, but totally impractical given current lifestyle and free time choices.... am I fussed whether I introduce my kids to sailing- yes. Am I desperate to ensure that it happens to be in dinghy racing at puddles in the midlands... no, quite the contrary, there's far more sailing can offer than that.

Well thank goodness you got rid of the so-slow, yet another good day when a boat is sold (especially a solo).
MoJo's always become faint when its cold and lashing and yet another year has dawned as we creak out of bed and realise life is slipping by and you will never be quite what you were........ ![]() D-One constantly tempts me, but don't even think of it if you are not doing three or four months of just sailing/training. Don' t buy something like a d-one and go straight out racing in 18knots as you will be rubbish and get disillusioned faster than a graduate at their first day of real work ![]() New RS is long overdue and should be multipurpose and its soooo light you can pump it like a windsurfer (stoked dude). If you are getting creaky Weta still fast and fun. There is always something new to have a go at. I got back on a fast board last year for the first time in 15 years - absolutely loved it, but it was in Greece. I was on hols, the water was 80 degrees and hot hot hot. UK in Jan err....... nope. I've got a new small day boat to fiddle with this year so no new dinghy for me. So cheer up you miserable sods, the sun will soon be out and the breeze will be perfect ![]() (wonders off stage right whistling 'always look at the bright side of life') ![]() Edited by SimonW99 - 16 Jan 14 at 2:29pm |
