Can't put my finger on why, but I seem to have lost it a bit, the Solo incident might have been a contributory factor, but that's all settled now, maybe it's been all the very windy weather, or that I didn't have a break at the end of last season before starting anew in the new year.

Neither is there much going on here to listen and learn about..

Need something to fire me up again, life is a bit glum without some sailing enthusiasm..

Get a new boat at the Dinghy Show. Only 6-7 weeks to go.

My boat will hopefully be sold by the weekend.  I've certainly lost my 'racing mojo' - that happened with far too many consecutive races of drifting around the back being ghosted by old men 30 kilos lighter than me.  Poor timing?  maybe... whatever.

I could get something more suited to inland/heavy weight sailing- another Phantom, maybe an older Finn or an RS300, but that would mean accepting handicap racing... frankly I don't see the point, not at a 'big lake' anyway.  I'd rather just go sailing on my boards where and whenever I choose.  I had a cracking session down at Hayling on Sunday and came back totally stoked [insert word that doesn't make me sound like a complete t**ser.]  Rejuvenated... totally mojo'ed up!  Glad I ditched my pass for The Bloody Mary in favour of it.

There are some green shoots of interesting things happening though- the D-One is building a nice momentum, although it's probably too fast for me (limits where I can actually sail it, ruling out a local club change to one of the smaller venues) and I really don't want a kite anymore... too much phaff, although I'm sure it's fun and no doubt I would rush into buying one after a nice F2-3 blast that would have otherwise been a bit of ball ache on a windsurf board.  But that would only to find some old frustrations come to light.... what's the point in a ten grand dinghy that doesn't go around the cans to its handicap???  Might as well not bother with the race, not unless it's just practice for the circuit sailing.  Is it another boom and bust asymmetric class?  I genuinely hope not, but only time will tell.

There's also this new RS boat, the Punk as well... again all nice and appealing to look at, simplicity and beauty.  And probably far more appropriate for what I'd want from a boat- unstayed unarig beach boat....  basically a Laser that's adapted to the expanding and variable waist line and ergonomic desires of the 21st Century.    But handicap racing... no thanks, not where I currently sail.

I've also always wanted to scratch the Contender itch, my first post on this forum sought out info on them.... 9 years ago I think, I ended up ignoring Big Wave Dave and Contender443 and bought an RS600.  I don't regret it, but I do still have a desire to sail a Contender- more now than ever with the knee problems that flared up after the 100.  But that's a sea boat and 16ft of wednesday night frustration.... I know that now and know not to bother.

Finally there's the boat I want when money and time are no object- a Finn.  That would be good, but no point owning one at the moment- not when I'm so time poor and can't get around to other places to sail it.  Besides there's a few coppers to put into jars with their price tag....   it's always been the boat to lug in lieu of a gold watch; early retirement looks a distinct possibility, but it's a way off yet.

So I think the best thing is to accept the loss of mojo on one aspect of my sailing, whilst embracing the opportunities and freedom the other side offers. The dinghy world isn't exactly an inspiring place to be right now.  But these things change, and I wouldn't say I'll never get another one, but circumstances need to be a bit different.  Anyway, thanks to Graeme for introducing me once again to windsurfing (a brief foray in 1997 doesn't really count).  At least I've got options to keep me sailing, learning, progressing and generally enjoying my sailing, and above all I'm not learning golf which is sailing suicide as well as down right wrong  LOL

swallowing pride happened a long time ago Tim.... for me, it was when you sailed straight past me at the Stevie Nicks in 2011... you were sailing like a lazy oaf, maybe half an arse cheek over the wing; I was hiking my balls off and couldn't walk for three days afterwards.  I wanted to swap places there and then...

yep- you can pay 8 grand for one from someone else who has realised its limitations/compromises...  Confused

Anyway, I've not posted here to 'bash' the D-One... I still reckon it's better RTC than a 100, purely because the mainsail is powerful enough to sort of hold it to handicap on tight reaches.  With any luck you guys / early adopters will be a catalyst for change, something exciting to come back to and join in again, so again, not bashing them; but not joining them yet either.

If I were going to replace my Solo I'd simply prefer a unarig for club sailing, and as and when time frees up and I can travel a bit, maybe a D-One will be better bet than the Finn.... who knows.

I'll post you a video of the BM last weekend holding off the Firballs and Merlins on a fetch....that was fun....just need to edit it

That's quick then. Fully hiked the 300 is the same as a Merlin on a kiteless reach and marginally slower than a Fireball.

So yes something new might do it, it generally does, but all that bullsh*t waiting for it, why can't they get some balls and build some stock before the show? Imagine you could go to the show and drive away with it on the trailer/roofrack?

And stop talking about Merlins and Fireballs in my lost Mojo thread, I'm sure it was that session with the Solo that caused all this. Had my charisma and life-force totally sucked away, aged me ten years.. All this talk of old dross is not going to help, Nor is a D1, although I hope to persuade Rodney and Co to come down to demo them and other stuff in a festival of wind weekend later this summer..

I really know nothing except that many of the boats you mention have been in the possession of Winging It so you are likely the same weight and height.  She had a MegaByte for a bit - considered it?

Yellowwelly is suffering from Black Pudding addiction, that scourge of the North of England, 2nd only to Buck fast in it's degenerative qualities of the human condition. So bad has the condition become that Yellow welly has taken to getting himself rescued by way of attention seeking and self harm and bothering the RNLI along with other EMO windsurfing retards..
