Its not like the wings can catch the wind or anything
![]() I've never thought of the Canadians as reckless before. |

How many of us take tie down equipment when we go to a 2 day meeting? And if the boats are left on lawns in a row, as is often the case, then you can't really screw dog ties in. If the weather is obviously blowy, then tucking boats into gaps is possible, but isn't normal procedure, is it?

I tucked my D1 well away and tied it down when I took it to Datchet for the Flyer. Very conscious of the wing effect!

Mark Asquith is the coach so I am sure they will get a lecture about looking after equipment.

I always tie mine down to the roadbase overnight. It has to be pretty windy to blow over a boat properly tied to a combi trailer. One event, I knew it would be really windy, so I filled a couple of rubble sacks with shingle from the beach and tied them to the chain plates. It's quicker to do it than argue whether it's necessary. If you know you've done what you can, you can relax a bit more. Some insurers were making statements about tying boats down last year, it will be interesting to see if many claims are declined. It's not too late to be worth checking boats, more wind expected, even well tied boats can work loose fray ropes etc. |

I questioned the effort a couple of guys had gone to in Cornwall a few years ago, filling two buckets with sand and sea-water and adding these to the tie-down to the road-trailer. Next morning, they were pretty much vindicated by the state of the three boats (all blown over or askew) next to theirs, which was still upright and seemed fine, despite being on the end of the row on the quay.
