This is how steep. This is a Wellman submarine being trialled at QM during the war.
Needs to sail more...

Its NOT that bad!

I have sailed there nearly all my adult life, and found it not much of a problem, unless the water levels are down.

Obviously if you sail heavier boats then your gonna need a winch or maybe some friendly trolley dollys, but really its nothing to moan on about....and certainly NOT enough to put you off the sailing there....its a FAB venue.

James, you should do the BM mate.  Its a bucket list thing.  I may do it this year if i have a boat/trailer/both.  Launching is a nightmare mate.  I have done countless BM now and its stressful getting to the water front and despite the help its obvious that people in duberry boots dont want to get in above ankle height.  The ramp has got to be at least a 45deg angle, its launchable but if it wasnt for the Bloody Mary i wouldnt bother with the place.  I am really suprised no one has broken something walking on the ramp, or at least put their back out pulling even a Laser up there.

What could possibly go wrong?

exactly mate... I couldn't give a monkey's about how I do in it, and I'm really not even considering it a race as such.  It'd just be a laugh sailing with that many boats around... and I might as well go while I've still got a so-slow... you get your money's worth in a pursuit race!

Thanks for the other tips, I will take precautions, especially as the trolley's not gunnel hung... I assume you pull the mainsail up when at the waters edge in bitchy wind directions?

You try and make sure you pick the right side of the bund to launch James. You can probably hoist sail at the top then, as the boat has to be beam to the slip to stop it disappearing off, so its easier at the top.

Tie a long rope to your trolley so that the shore helper can recover it for you (there will be lots of helpers).

Get in a soon as the boat is afloat, it shelves so steeply that you can't really walk away from the edge!

It's a stupidly fantastic event, I shall be taking my Musto again this year provided there is enough wind to trapeze.

see you there Mark... assuming there's enough wind to trapeze (I won't be going for less than windward side deck sitting either btw)

The Flyer was a great event and enjoyed by the vast majority.  Decent wind and good organisation (once the results were sorted  ... naturally  Wink)

The pursuit on Sunday was a riot but I'd prefer not to have the '2 race format' again ... In the 'slow' group we had many many more interactions with the fast fleet ... some of whom were impressing us with both their speed and occasionally abject inability (in a few cases) to stay in full control.    It gave them a longer race but really compromised the racing of others - and more often ...   Still enjoyed it but I'd go for the KISS 'vanilla' flavour pursuit  next time.

It is sometimes worth trying these sort of  things .. even if only to find out their real practicality 'out there' !

I have to say the revised PYs being used by the Sailjuice Series do seem to be giving a good mix of classes and types of boats at the top of the scores. We also are not seeing the previous examples of class block outs suggesting the bandit classes have perhaps been leveled off a bit more by the Sailjuice PYs.

Does anyone have a list of the key adjustments they have made?
