Was a good weekend sailing. Saturday was a challenge with the wind shifts and varying strength and yesterday was just epic hard work.
I have no idea about the results, lots of chatter, but well done Datchet for chucking your hat in and getting the event off the ground. |

Its funny though, if I were to put a 15ft or so "painter" on my trolley it would make all sorts of beach handling easier, even to just making it easy for any passing spectator to pull the trolley out of the water with dry feet, yet somehow I never get round to doing it... |

a painter... my god, I haven't heard that word since the 1992 Optimist Nationals in the Mumbles.
Why did they go so out of fashion? Every dinghy had one in the 80's, even windsurf boards from that era have an attachment point for one!

Am I alone in thinking the results for the pursuit don't stack up???? The most obvious is the number of people who didn't race Saturday who haven't had their points for DNC added to their final result??

Yes we are sorting these, quite a few people turned up on Sunday who have not scored correctly - had hope to do last night, but didn't get home to very late due to lots of traffic issues in the bad weather Any other results queries please email Mike Ridley : mike.ridley@sailracer.co.uk |

Thanks for that. Always a bit worrying when posted results don't quite look right and the phone numbers on the NOR have answer phone messages saying office closed for several days!!
Was a great weekend and is a really good series. Given how many different classes there are now and how small some open turnouts are. Who thinks a similar summer series on sea venues would be a good idea?? |

definitely not... for whatever reason, and I certainly don't think by design or intention, these great individual events have been soured by the series concept, and have certainly changed the nature of them imho.

Summer events would be very unpopular with the CAs.
You'd think that small classes might be keen, but I suspect the demise of the TASA thing suggests they wouldn't be. |

I don't think they've been soured, except perhaps for a handful of individuals on this forum. If anything, the opposite is the case with entries buoyant and 100 boats at both the Dash and the Flyer (in it's first year) + the entry limit for the Brass Monkey already reached.

It's the knock on effect though... how many club winter series are suffering as the weekends all get taken up with travelling events? I've no idea how many winter members we've got this year, my feel is it's probably less than in the past.
What with class racing in the spring, summer and autumn, plus this series now in the winter, you'd have to question what value there is in club membership if you are prepared to travel for your sailing.
Make the pinnacle of a weekend hobby sport all about travelling, either for competition or conditions, then don't be surprised if the numbers dry up... as it has in windsurfing. |
