Easy... you know the start time (different for each class) and the finish time when they complete their last lap (must keep racing too finsh the lap their on even if final time is up). divided by laps.

Easiest way would just be to have 2 winners, 2 2nd etc, wouldn't it?

Unfortunately not, we’ll have the X1 out on New Years Day Race and the whole of our Winter series after X-mas at Leigh and Lowton

So why not just hold a handicap race and not bother with a persuit. The nice thing about the persuit is you know your finish position when the final sound signal is sounded.

That's how I read it - for the pursuit race. Hope I'm in the slow pursuit race, given the forecast, and away from all the trapeze boats. Wink

The pursuit race is simply 2 fleets racing on the same course, concurrently.  Datchet are addressing the fact that the fast boats have less time racing.  Yes, as mentioned above, there will be 2 firsts, 2 seconds etc, each double scoring - hence 2,4,6 points.

At the end of the race there will be 2 heads of finishing at the 100 minute gun and sailors hold position until they next reach one of multiple finishing points.

Upon declaring the boat ahead and behind at the gun it does not matter which fleet (fast or slow) you or they are racing in.

My interpretation is that it isn't a pursuit race at all...the whole idea surely is to set the clock running and get the starts away...as already mentioned, when the clock hits 100 that's it - where you are on the water is where you finish...eliminating any further calculations.

Agreed this is gonna be a controversial outcome!

For clarity -

Datchet Flyer SIs - 13.4 - 'For the pursuit race, boats will be split into 2 fleets, fast and slow... There will be separate results for each fleet in the pursuit race'.

So, effectively, two pursuit races running concurrently.

When is a pursuit not a pursuit - when it's 2 pursuits. Smile
