Towergate. I would be interested if you would offer insurance to owners of classic boats that don't get sailed very often and are raced with consideration for their age. For instance I have a Hornet dinghy built in 1953 and only sailed tow or three times a year and not sailed in conditions that may be to strong for her. I still at present have to insure her on the same level as a modern Hornet that would be raced regularly and pushed hard.
There are a lot of owners of older boats who would be interested in "limited mileage" type insurance similar to that offered to classic car owners. A lot of us have more than one of these types of dinghies and would be interested in any package you could offer. |

Roger you should talk to Noble Marine. All my classics are covered by them and some do indeed have cover just for the special occasions they go afloat. Likewise they ar graded accordingly, so Aggie is classed as a classic 14 and will be assessed on his/her own merits when he/she is finally ready. All the moths have their own grades when they go out and some, such as the Peril, only get cover for special events. Eg the Peril just had cover for this year's Hunts event.
Without doubt more companies should offer this, it would get more old baots afloat that's for sure. |

Hi Roger,
Thanks for your enquiry. Our policies have quite a bit of flexibility so we may well be able to offer cover for your craft. I'll pass on your enquiry to the team and get you some answers. Many thanks, Towergate.

Nessa, Shoestring was last insured by Noble. I outlined the situation and they asked for a picture and then quoted the usual price for a Hornet. It must be cos she is such a stunning boat :-). It seems a shame to leave her in the shed when she should be on the water but if she sails only three times a year that is around £40 per sail. I was offered the option of insuring for a year and then cancelling the insurance after the event but that doesn't seem right somehow.
Towergate I will contact you again in the spring and see what options you can offer. May be you would consider a policy for all boats sailed under the cvrda |

If you'd like I can arrange for a member of our team to phone you at your convenience. That way you can go through everything and come to a solution that suits you? Send us a private message with your number and a good time to call if you'd like to do that. Thanks, Towergate.

It probably would be the rebuild cost. Jon at Noble knows I will do the majority of my repairs myself if I can, which does help. Plus I do have all my boats covered by one giant policy. Getting an insurer for the cvrda, like some other CAs do, would certainly be a good plan, Maybe they could even sponsor the Rally, then we could buy a new wingnut.

Rupert cant we shame him into it somehow? After all it has a long tradition behind it now. It would be a shame to lose the original because he cant be bothered to return it.
