I'm assured by superior Soloists that there's a lot in that technique thing when it gets really, really light... I don't buy it personally, I think it's down to pies and a positive mental attitude. You need one and not the other for light wind sailing.

I found that in really light weather the rig and sail cut was not so important. Having a slightly flatter cut of sail IMO helped in the light stuff. Hiking weather i would agree that the bendy mast and flatter sail would be slower for a heavier sailor.

FTFY and agreed, I find that when it gets really, really light, I take some fullness out of the sail on the outhaul... The area I'm playing with at the moment is leech control, mixing traveller, mainsheet tension and kicker. Too much kicker seems a killer, not enough leech tension and the whole lot feels depowered and gutless and the boat looses its glide. It's definitely a fiddler's boat in the light winds.
