Well I get busy and work for a while then login and find the usual nonsense about the 100 re-appearing here and on the thread about Vareos.

I've been campaigning the 100 at 78kg this year. I use the 8.4 on the circuit and my results have been as competitive as I would expect them to be. Do I find the boat unacceptably hard work upwind. Nope. It's no harder work than the laser, a 200, lark or any other sitting out boat. But, as Nick says, it is the most comfortable by a country mile.

At the club, Frensham, i use a 10.2, even if its stupid windy. We sail around the cans, all sorts of odd angles and I am competitive against the Phantoms, where upwind they do have a slight edge but downwind, I wave them goodbye.  Single sail reaches used to a struggle. Then I engaged brain, sat on the transom and pulled the plate 3/4 up and it's not an issue any more. I'd say I am now at least as competitive in it as I would be in my Laser or 200

So is the boat badly configured or designed? Is it fundamentally flawed cos it cannot be sailed upwind sensibly? B*ll*cks it is. Is it flipping good fun to sail, RTC and at events? Damn right. Has it rewarded perseverance and practice. Yup, but no surprise there, that's exactly how it should be.

Oh, and there remains a fantastic, friendly spirit in the class.

Finally, I think the highest sail number at Datchet was 488. Approx 100 boats a year does not sound too bad to me.

And as for James's stirring about sharing a start across 8.4s and 10.2s, we shared a course with 200s 400s, 500s and 800s. As it was, the OOD did a great job turning the races around. Give it a rest.

As to 7.4s, unless you are under 11 stone, just hang in there with the 8.4 and pull the strings on harder.

Sounds like the ultimate Trolley Dolly job to me! Is this retirement, then Nick, or a career change?

Certainly not a career change - and like loads of people these days, not sure i am capable of fully retiring! And anyone who does stuff for their club knows how that soaks time as well.....

Some nice pictures in the latest Y&Y from last 100 event. I like the green hull. I assume that's a sticker wrap or something?

I went to a print trade show for the first time this year, for the life of me, I can't work put why one company had "foiled" a Lamborghini... A Transit van (no offence) I can understand but a non racing super car? I guess it answers the question about how they can rebrand those extreme cats so quick and now 100's too....

I assume Ballotelis camouflage Bentley was a wrap. At least you can just peel it off afterwards...

Good luck, know the feeling when it comes to having the boat propped up at an angle indoors to do the job!

I installed a roller garage door, for the insulation value, when we moved into our house years ago, then realised a side benefit is that the internal beams make the perfect sail drying / kit drying rack, although you have to go bows first to get a wide boat on its side....
