Errrr.......everything Rockhopper says - he's good, damn good....(come on Andy - you know you want another one.... Wink) Depending on how big you are, hike like mad in the gusts upwind, plenty of kicker if it's breezy (16:1 helps if fitted). Launch & dump the kite on a training run & as Bernard says at first just play the kite leaving the main alone. When a bit more confident sheet in the main & play them both together. Try & keep the speed through the gybe & flick the main across as you move across the boat & beware powering up too early. Go for big bear-aways if a gust hits to keep the boat flat, hang onto your hat & whoop like crazy once it's going well!! To help prevent inversions tie on a masthead float as you practice capsizes! Enjoy!!

Really enjoyed sailing them in the Med - can't add anything to the above except to say that they are actually pretty stable boats, but they do take over in big gusts down wind with the kite up. If it wants to go THAT way, it will go THAT way! Of course more weight and more skill would help, in my case, so you'll be fine, I'm sure.

After you've tried the Vareo, try a 100.

Why have a go in a 100 when its almost the same as the vareo you need lots of weight to keep the thing down you must be heavy to get the best out of it . Evil Smile
Now a D1 is something more interesting Thumbs Up

Correct, it had shiny black bits, had to be done, funny you can't see them when you're swimming around it looking for a way to get back in..

hmmm, have you sailed both (or all 3) or is this forum generalisation time?

If we are generalising then my vote is the D1!  I'm not sure how this helps Jeffers though...

Edit: to add weight to my claim I have of course never sailed one, nor even seen one in the flesh.  I have sailed a vareo though in Minorca, it was a surprising amount of fun.
