In fact the K1 does have a jib stick as well as a boom complete with its own kicker and it furls !
If you want a reaching sail then size and material on that setup could be good. Scale up from jib/genoa/code zero asymmetric. ![]() ![]() |

I had that on the V2 instead of a self tacking jib track, still got it, didn't much like it.

The K1 jib kicker as shown in the photo does not work as well as it should. When the jib is sheeted out, the various links between the deck and the jib "collapse" when the kicker is on hard, so the kicker is not doing its job efficiently.
Because of this, K1's are now allowed a dangly pole (after much discussion and testing during the year). So you can have a dangly pole and a jib boom. Also, some of the sailors have the dangly pole attached to the aft end of the jib boom with a tiller extension joint. Perhaps somebody with experience of dangly poles could comment on loss of efficiency, due to wind age, when going upwind? In other words is the advantage downwind worth the loss upwind? |

Seems like a lot of scaffolding for a little sail... If it doesn't work...
![]() Why doesn't this sort of issue get ironed out in beta testing? Edited by yellowwelly - 07 Nov 13 at 9:46pm |

I was referring to the lower of the two pictures.
The extra pole in the upper picture was the alternative way of keeping the jib boom out before the dangly pole was allowed. |

Stop thinking of how to attach poles to the mast and boom, and have them extend out of your sleeves instead, giving you the reach to goosewing a sail manually.

Have once or twice during club racing on silly courses in stupidly light winds goosewinged the B14. Helm and crew perched on the forward extensions of the wings, crew holding spinnaker sheets out even further. Not sure how effective it was, but everything in front of us stopped.

A bamboo pole with a point on it jammed in the eye of the spinny and held out by the crew - something I wondered about several times when trying to sail a slow assy in very light winds.
